Dear HCC-Music Members,
I am temporarily suspending the operations of the HCC-Music group.
There will be no concert announcement mailings for the fall semester.
I will retain your subscriptions but I will turn off delivery of
messages to you so that you will not be bothered by my testing of the
group calendar and email reminder functions. If you have any
questions or requests, please email me at hcc-music-owner(at)
yahoogroups.com (replacing the parenthetical phrase in the address
with the @ symbol) or you may reply to this message.
I will send an announcement when I restore operations.
Thank you all for your patience and continued interest. My detailed
notes on the suspension are appended.
Your group manager,
Bill Herbert
Notes:
The primary reason for suspension is technical problems with the
functioning of our group's email reminders. In the past year, most of
the email reminders failed to automatically trigger and required
manual mailing. Support personnel at Yahoo!Groups have been
optimistic, but very slow to help me with the problem. I believe that
the core issue could be that Yahoo!Groups is migrating to new
calendar software, and our group is stuck with old software that is
not being updated, while the conversion is underway. I have no
confirmation of this but I believe it through my experience with
other groups that are working well with a new calendar interface.
If I am unable to resolve the problems, I will move your
subscriptions to a new list (with a new name) where I expect to find
the new calendar software. I will announce this if it is necessary,
because it will require your cooperation to confirm your subscription
to the new list.
A secondary reason for the suspension is my difficulty with the
logistics of concert information at HCC. Concert information is kept
diffusely throughout the faculty and staff. In the last year my
information for the list has not always been current or accurate.
Last semester's announcements were particularly inaccurate and for
that I apologize. While the list is suspended, I hope to develop new
procedures for obtaining only perfect information for our list.
