Hi Guys,
Beatlefest was fantastic. Shell and I had a really good time.
Donovan was really great. He did "Sunshine Superman", "Herdie Gerdy
Man", "Mellow Yellow", "Jennifer Juniper", "Atlantis". He told many
stories including how he taught John how to play finger picking style
guitar when they all went to see the Maharessi. The John songs that
resulted were, "Julia" and "Dear Prudence."
He told us that one of his favorite Lennon lines which showed John's
Unique Humor was in "All You Need is Love." Donovan was there and
loved the line, "There's Nothing You Can Do That Can't Be Done." It
described his own point of view about things.
Donovan also told us some stories about how some famous songs were
written including, "Yellow Submarine." Paul was having trouble
creating some lyrics and asked Donovan to help him out. After
thinking for a bit, Donovan came out with the famous, "Sky of Blue
and Sea of Green in our Yellow Submarine."
Liverpool was better then ever. They have a new George guy, John
Merjave, for the past two years.
Last night, he did "Stuck Inside a Cloud" and even played that funky
Indian Instrument, the Sitar on a song, " Love You To". They also
did Ringo's new song, "Never Without You." That is the tribute Ringo
wrote for George. It was just an awesome time. Liverpool also
played "Tomorrow Never Knows". Imagine how hard it is to recreate
that song live. But, like "Love You Too" and "A Day in the Life",
Liverpool finds a way.
Mark Hudson was also there and jammed with Liverpool. He is Ringo's
producer on his last CD. Sid Bernstein was there also. He is the
one who got the Beatles to play Carnegie Hall. I have met Sid many
times. He is such a gentleman.
Martin Lewis of course was there along with Joe Johnson on Beatles
Brunch who did a great Beatles Trivia Game. Joe told many of us Long
Island Faithful that he was born in Valley Stream, Long Island, New
York.
Bob Abdou was also there with his famous Fab Four Puppets. Q104.3's
Ken Dashow was there once again and welcomed me back to New York.
YAHOO!!!
Andy Babiuk also did a great presentation about Beatles'
Instruments. He wrote a book called "Beatles Gear" about all those
Instruments. George was fascinated with it. Ringo uses it to see
what drums he had in his Beatle years.
Robert Freeman was also there. He showed many great photos of the
Bealtes including the ones from the many album covers that he did
including Rubber Soul and Meet the Beatles.
Just a splendid time was had by all. The only way it could have been
better for Shell and I is if you guys were there and we could have
afforded to stay the whole weekend.
It was great seeing Jean and Mark!!!!
Talk to you all soon.
