Well said, Bill!
During the second show, Murray compared himself to Dante in the Inferno
and reckoned he had descended to the third or fourth level of Hell. I
thought he was referring to the intense heat and humidity around the
tiny cramped "stage" with its one inch of clearance between his
head and the rafters, or perhaps the constant danger of losing his
balance on the swaying floor. But his main concern was the boat listing
so far to starboard that we were in danger of capsizing.
Don't get me wrong. Manhattan, seen from the water, is one of the
most beautiful sights on the planet. But the Circle Line tour boats are
not designed as a venue for live music. Thanks to the non-existent
sightlines, probably 80% of the attendees never caught even a glimpse of
the band.
NYC has no shortage of great venues for live music (where nothing ever
moves). There is no need for us to hang out on a pier down by the
Hudson. -- Jay
