Good show at Shady Grove. If you haven't been there, it's a little
restaurant with a nice outside patio under giant oak trees. They have an
artist there Unplugged every Thursday from now till June or so. I haven't
been in a couple of years (maybe 4-5) and it's gotten huge. All the tables
are moved out now and there are rows of chairs. There's also a little grass
lawn where people put down blankets.

There must have been 400 people there, it was nuts. Only thing that sucked
is that so many of them talked through the whole show. It was very hard to
hear. I was not up front. He played 1:45, very good show.

He played several new songs and a couple of them sounded very promising.

He also covered Dallas and Driver 8.

According to pollstar, Rhett is one of the "and others" who will be playing
the music of R.E.M. in a benefit show at Carnegie Hall next month.

Last Saturday (12/20) evening around 8 p.m., at the skating rink at
Rockefeller Center, under the Christmas Tree, a couple was alone on the
ice. Clearly a marriage proposal was in the works. The crowds were
cheering and shortly after the young man got down on one
knee, "Question" started playing over the PA system.

Turns out I can't go this Friday, so if you want 3 seats together on the
floor, hit me on the backchannel. You pay what I paid (plus paypal's vig).

I haven't printed them yet so you'll be able to print them yourself.

hey folks, anyone here trekking to my realm for the oct 14 show? some
confusion led to extra ticket purchases, so i have one to spare ($22
with fees, same price as online) if anyone can help me out by buying
it. email me off-list at maggie.redmags AT gmail.com, please. i have
RME and PayPal and can even mail the ticket out rather than try to
meet up to hand off.

i'm really looking forward to a night out in town; we already have a
sitter lined up for the kids (i have a toddler and a 5 month old
now). it's the first time i'm seeing the band play in a couple years,
i've never been to People's downtown (the old one was up in ames),
and, to top it off, now all the venues in iowa are non-smoking. cant
wait!

Emily,

Thanks for the link. Your husband did a great job of capturing the show's
ambience (or as
we used to say in the 60's: the vibe, man).

Awesome review David!

My husband and I were also at the show. His review is posted here:
http://culturalsenescence.blogspot.com/2008/07/old-97s-sleepercar-floore-country\

He mis-identified the opening song, but we were too busy dancing to write
anything down, so I think he can be forgiven.

Here's your chance to own a bit of musical history from the long-lost
days of the Old 97's - Ryan Adams "feud."

It's RyRy's guitar case, or was, until one night in 1999, when he
smashed the guitar formerly contained herein, during an onstage rant
about the Old 97's at one of Whiskeytown's final shows, in Houston.

Read all about it:

http://blogs.newsobserver.com/beat/from-the-ryan-adams-watch

Bid on it:

Enjoy.

Just outta curiosity, do you think that, if the HBAT masses all logged
on and filled out an online voting sheet, that the Dance With Me video
would get on the VH1 countdown?

(This is part of our weekend routine, btw. One of us will get up, walk
the dog, & get some coffee from our friendly neighborhood coffee shop,
the other will get the eggs & bacon started. Then we watch the Top 20
Video Countdown on Sattiday morning, usually TiVo-iing thru the crap,
which is substantial.)

I know that you can write in a video that's not on their list of
choices. I've been doing this the last couple of days, but one
person's vote doesn't mean much. I'm just wondering if the 97's-Nation
could steal some votes away from the, ugh, Bret Michaels Band and
swing those votes to the 97's.

The link is...

http://www.vh1.com/shows/series/top_20_countdown/vote.jhtml

Any takers??

on a blog post for Kulturblog (www.kulturblog.com) about the
in-store--nothing fancy, just some notes, mostly about my daughters meeting
the band members.

Hey there David,

I video taped yesterdays instore at Waterloo records...

I'm sort of new to this video stuff.... is there an easy way I can get this
video sent to you in a format that you can use/play with.

It's stored digitally on my camcorder... and I'm about to rip it to my mac (I'm
also a new mac user)
