Fred:
Sorry I missed the meeting, but I had a conflicting event.
The suggested topic sounds fine to me. If you wish, I could bring my Sony
SCD-XA9000ES SACD/CD player to use as a reference. It is Sony's current
flagship player, rated A+ by Stereophile. It should out-perform the older Sony
and may be a better transport than the Denon. The XA9000ES has optical and
coaxial digital outputs. For CD playback, it easily beats my old McCormack
DAC-1 Deluxe. Also, the Sony has a user-selectable choice between two digital
filters. Using the remote, one can easily switch between CD and SACD playback
of a hybrid disc.
Another topic I would like to suggest for a future meeting: Small, two-way
monitor or bookshelf speakers.

Sounds like a good topic for the next meeting. If we do choose this
topic It would be interestng to use John's Sony SACD player or an
Exemplar-modded Denon as the reference, both in SACD and PCM modes, so
we could compare the SACD layer of a disk, the PCM layer through the
player's internal DAC, and successively each of the outboard DACs that
members bring to the meeting.
I would be interested in knowing whether other club members are
interested in this topic, and which other DAC's they could bring to
the meeting?
