Subject: Weird targets for copycat directors
arjun_mohan2000
Send Email Send Email

Indian music directors have had varying influences, often coming to mimicry
while composing songs. Their targets have come from different countries, ages
and styles. But some of their targets are really strange. Let's make a list of
weird targets for copycat directors, shall we?

One of the strangest targets we've had is this band called Linear. They're one
of those shallow 1980's-early 90's pop bands with style and no substance (more
famous examples being Seduction and Milli Vanilli) and have only one hit, and
possibly only one album. Yet, Anu Malik, far more accomplished a musician,
lifted the entire song and added even more to fit the Bollypop style. By lifting
this song and getting caught, he's made a rather obscure pop band famous! This
should, at present, top such a list.

Can you think of any more?

the starting part of the song is copied from the 'europe final countdown'.... the place where the following lyrics are sung...

Yen Nenjodu Veesum Indha Pennoda Vaasam...........

I don't see much of a similarity. I think the qayamat song is an original song.

THis song is very close to one song by Paul Anka of 1961. The Mukhada is
definitely lifted:

Is the Dooriyan track from Break Ke Baad lifted from Sheryl Crow's Soak Up the
Sun? I find a lot of similarity between these two songs and when I hum one of
them, I end up humming the other.

J-L's 'Suniye To' in Yes Boss was lifted, we are aware of that, courtesy info already being there on itwofs.

I just heard 'Saila Saila' from 'Gundagardi' that was exactly same as the Arab original. Interestingly both movies came around same time, 1997.

I got surprised, thinking who gave J-L the inspiration to lift the same song twice? The then-recent Anu Malik Sir's double Macarena lift?

1997? Dont think so.... the song 'Suniye Tho' was copied from another copy....the Tamil song 'Azhagiye Laila' from the movie 'Ullathai Alli Thaa' (composed....oops, copied by Sirpi) which released in 1996 (!!!!)
The original is still the Arabic song.....Sirpi's tamil copy was better than the original, though, in my opinion!
In the 1990s, I used to wonder if Sirpi was the best copycat (compliment!) of all time, though later Pritam came by and outcopied and outlasted everybody else...still love Pritam for unearthing and copying melodies...hmmm...Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal..are tooo good....what if they were copied?

I'd bet that J.Lo doesn't write her own songs! :)
A lot of times these people who churn out hits for the latest pop starlet... borrow freely from themselves.

Case in point: Tik Tok by Kesha and California Gurls by Katy Perry ... are the exact same song.
See the mashup at http://unoriginalmusic.ytmnd.com/ to hear how much.

The difference is that they steal from themselves. But Pritam does that too. :D

You didn't understand properly. What I am saying is that these songwriters use the same basis for multiple tunes that they compose. Pritam copies from others as well as himself. That is all. :)

you realize many music directors have tune for newer songs in interludes of
older songs right? this isn't copying.....

what is with all these stupid posts nowadays referring to music directors USING

Vishal-Shekhar's 'Shut Up & Bounce' song from the movie 'Dostana':

The song 'Coco Jumbo' by the band Mr. President.

after 18 seconds from the starting, it goes like,"Put me up, put me down, Put my feedback on the ground..", is copied as "Shut Up N Bounce Baby Bounce, Mehki Mehki Hawaein..." by Vishal-Shekhar. This makes it a catchy song.

The Vivek Oberoi movie, Prince's hit song 'Jannat Sajayee maine tere liye', sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Atif Aslam, composed by Sachin Gupta.:

Original song from the movie Yalgar, 'Ho Jata Hai Kaise Pyar Na Jane Koi', composed by Channi Singh*.

The antara of the song starts at 2:25 minute, which is copied as opening of the 'tere liye' song. So the portion 'Aankh hasina se milne ke bad, Aansu me sama jaye usakee yad' is copied as 'Jaagi jaagi soyi na main saari raat, tere liye, Bheegi bheegi palkein meri udaas, tere liye'.

*Channi Singh from the band Alaap, who composed the song 'Chunni ud ud jaaye' which was used by Anand-Milind as 'Mujhe Neend na Aaye' for the movie Dil.
