If you are using Windows, it should be just a matter of selecting
the MIDI preference in the MIDI prefs control pane (open
Preferences > Midi.

If you are using MacOS, you need to use a 3rd party controller
due to Impro-Visor being a java app. Mandolane is suggested:

It has been a while since I've used such devices. You may need to
experiment a bit.
