Daniel,
You select the notes, then drag the selection laterally, to the
next slot, or any number of slots. (Currently this only works for
more than 1 note. There's a small bug that prevents it for a single
note).

That's right, we don't have "beaming" yet. It is on the wish-list
but lower priority than some other items. But singers read this
type of notation all the time, so instrumentalists should be able
to. If the density of spacing is an issue, you can always make
there be fewer measures on a line. (Ask if it is unclear how
to do this.)
