A professional for more than twenty years, Clifford Lamb was born in
New York City and began classical piano studies at the age of 5. By
the age of eighteen, the music of Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea
inspired him to complete four years of jazz studies at Boston's
Berklee College of Music in 1979. He studied privately with the late,
great Madame Chaloff, Ray Santisi, and Harvey Diamond, a strong Lenny
Tristiano disciple.
He began his professional career by touring with the Tommy Dorsey
Orchestra, settling in Los Angeles in 1981 with appearances with Larry
Gales, John Pattituchi, and Carl Burnett.
In 1985, he returned to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he appeared
alongside such musicians as John Handy, Herbie Lewis, and, Donald
Bailey, in addition to forming his own band.
His debut CD, "One", was recorded at Whip Records in Berkeley, CA. and
is influenced by the music of Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, and
Thelonius Monk. "One" is a study of approaching storytelling with
music. The opening track, "All Blues", features a bowed single bass
note, imitating the sounds of the universe, with the piano portraying
Miles Davis floating in space after life on Earth. The Beatles
renowned tune " Eleanor Rigby" portrays one of the "lonely people."
His piano offers a compassionate first person rendition of her emoting
of her life, from beginning to end.
The fifty one minute effort, "One," is influenced by Clifford Lamb's
association with the Soka Gakkai International, the lay Buddhist
organization and his work as a music educator.
Clifford Lamb comments: "I wanted to share with others the feelings of
hope that I have found through my 'piano voice' over these past
years.I believe that my music is a direct reflection of the people and
places that comprise the life that I lead. I feel hopeful everyday,
and would like to share this feeling with as many people as possible. "
