Emily Pinkerton: an ethnomusicologist whose music spans from Appalachia to the Andes

When she lays down South American grooves on guitar, audiences are hard-pressed to tell that Emily Pinkerton is a native of the Midwest. Born and raised in Valparaiso, Indiana, her musical education carried her to Valparaíso, Chile, inspiring a decade of immersion in Latin American music. Her latest release weaves these two worlds together in a vibrant, transcontinental tapestry. Evocative, haunting vocals in Spanish and English soar above pulsating rhythms of Andean guitar and old-time banjo.  www.emilypinkerton.com

Jim Scott: a well-known UU activist/artist whose music covers ecology, justice, and peace
(And a much-loved veteran of the Indy Folk Series)

Years of activism are reflected in Jim's work.  His songs, poetry and short stories address issues of ecology, justice and peace with insight and gentle wit.  As a member of the Paul Winter Consort, Jim was co-creator of the monumental choral work Missa Gaia/Earth Mass.  As a UU, he created "The Earth and Spirit Songbook," a collection of over 100 songs of earth and peace by many contemporary composers, and helped create the "Green Sanctuary" program, a framework used by congregations of all denominations to promote good stewardship of the earth. His musical creativity has produced published choral works, soundtracks for PBS, a stage musical, many recordings of songs and concert collaborations with renowned Jazz, Classical, and Folk artists.  www.jimscottsongs.com

See you then, music lovers--and stay tuned for the announcement of the 2009-2010 series of the fabulous Indy Folk Series.
