American Music Channel E-News, January 7, 2005 Artists Help With Tsunami Relief Effort
Willie Nelson will headline the "Tsunami Relief, Austin to South Asia" concert to be held on Sunday, January 9, in Austin, Texas. The concert will also feature Joe Ely, Ray Price, Alejandro Escovedo, Patty Griffin, Spoon, Bruce Robison, and Kelly Willis. It benefits the Red Cross, UNICEF, and Doctors Without Borders. Then on January 15, the Tsunami Telethon will feature Kenny Chesney, Christina Aguilera, Sheryl Crow, and actor George Clooney. The one-hour program will be telecast on NBC and its cable channels--USA Network, Bravo, Trio, Sci Fi, MSNBC, and CNBC.
Toby and Ted Tour
Toby Keith begins a series of concerts with rocker Ted Nugent on January 20 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Seven shows are scheduled with Nugent, with the tour ending February 13 in Tallahassee, Florida. The two musicians were participants in a USO tour last summer, where they entertained troops stationed in Italy, Germany, Kosovo, and the Persian Gulf.
Gretchen Makes More Year-End Lists
We reported last week that Gretchen Wilson was the only country artist to make Time Magazine’s year-end list, where her debut CD Here For The Party was ranked among the top ten best albums. Now Rolling Stone magazine has ranked Here For The Party as one of their Top 50 Records of 2004. Also, Entertainment Weekly listed Wilson at #8 in their Top 12 Entertainers of the Year, alongside Mel Gibson, Jamie Foxx, Prince, and the cast of "Desperate Housewives."
Pat Hosts Party In The Rockies
Pat Green has invited several musicians to join him in the Colorado Rockies this week for some skiing and singing. "Party in the Rockies" began earlier this week, January 4, in Steamboat, Colorado, and runs through January 9. Gary Allan and Dierks Bentley will perform, along with Texas musicians like Cross Canadian Ragweed and Reckless Kelly. "We just don't get enough snow down in Texas," Green said. "So this is as good an excuse as any to throw a little ski trip, get a bunch of bands we like, and let the people who come to our shows have an excuse to go skiing, too."
Bracelet In Memory Of Tug
The phrase "Ya gotta believe" was a phrase Tug McGraw (Tim's father) made popular. Now thanks to Tim and Jennifer Brusstar, Tug’s caregiver for the last few months of his life, the phrase is now inscribed on bracelets being sold to aid cancer patients. The bracelets, made from the seams of baseballs, are inscribed with Tug's uniform number, 45, and YGB, the initials for "Ya gotta believe." Approximately 70,000 have already been sold, and they’re available for $4.50 through Tim’s official web site. Proceeds will be directed to the Tug McGraw Center for Neuro-Oncology Quality of Life at Duke University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Friday Night Lights Release
Friday Night Lights will be released on DVD and VHS January 18. The hit movie, in which Tim McGraw made his feature film debut, also stars Billy Bob Thornton.
Stars Kick Off Inaugural Galas
John Michael Montgomery will join host Kelsey Grammer January 18 at the MCI Center in Washington for a kickoff inaugural gala for President Bush. The following day, Clay Walker, Neal McCoy, Lyle Lovett, and Asleep at the Wheel will be part of the entertainment for the "Black Tie and Boots Ball," a non-official jamboree put on by the Texas State Society. Then the Bush twins, Jenna and Barbara, will host a youth concert where Kid Rock will be a part of the talent lineup.
Judd Sisters In Ladies Home Journal
Wynonna and Ashley Judd will grace the cover of Ladies Home Journal this week. It is the first time the sisters have appeared on a magazine cover together. In the cover story inside, the two stars discuss their work with YouthAIDS. Also, look for Wy to appear back on Oprah in February.
Buddy Raises Money For Son’s Friend
When Buddy Jewell’s four-year old son Joshua's best friend, Cameron, was recently diagnosed with leukemia, Buddy decided to hold a celebrity auction to help offset the costly treatments. He enlisted the help of his celebrity pals, who donated autographed items to help Cameron and his family. Fans bid on items from Buddy, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Vince Gill, Charlie Daniels, and many others. Jewell helped raise over $10,000 with his "A Cure for Cameron" celebrity auction.
Trace In Orange Bowl Halftime Show
Trace Adkins was part of the musical entertainment earlier this week in the FedEx Orange Bowl Halftime Show. Joining Adkins at halftime was pop star Ashlee Simpson and the first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson. Adkins performed his current single, "Songs About Me," from his upcoming album, scheduled for release in March.
Julie Performs At Animal Rescue Concert
Julie Roberts is among the stars performing this Saturday night in support of St. Louis Cardinals baseball manger Tony LaRussa’s Animal Rescue Foundation’s benefit concert in Walnut Creek, California. The annual event, now in its 14th year, raises money to aid in the protection of animals.
