Such?sadness and loss?on a hopeful day -- and one candidate's grandma/mama
figure?gone, too, before the results were in.?

Sympathies to Beth and Belva. You're in my heart.

Well, if this lifetime?is the only chance you get to get it right, or even if it
isn't,?let's hope we get it right ... let's all make sure and vote!

What a beautiful poem, Heidi. And Belva, I'm sorry to hear of your losses and
troubles. I truly sympathize. You seem to be a strong woman and it sounds like
you are really there for your friends and family. There are times when we have
to pull back and do the hard work that this life often requires of us.

This poem spoke to me as well because last night I learned just after my
hoopdance class that a sweet, young, beautiful friend, newly married (just two
weeks), who drummed for us hoopdancers, passed away the night before in his
sleep. No reason, no warning, out of the blue. I am grieving the loss of a
beautiful soul. Today I go to the doctor with my mom, who has just been
diagnosed with cancer. Sorry to unload here, but I'm kind of reeling from it
all. And so much riding on this election day. Part of me illogically feels that
they should postpone the election for me because there is just too much going
on. I'll be thinking of you, Belva, and wishing you and your family well.

On Joy and Sorrow
Kahlil Gibran
Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with
your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's
oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed
with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is
only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that
in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Some of you say, "Joy is greater thar sorrow," and others say, "Nay, sorrow is
the greater."
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits, alone with you at your board, remember
that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.
When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver, needs must
your joy or your sorrow rise or fall.

Beth how fun was that! Did you just get up and decide to fly to Austin or
what?
From the looks of your Hobby of Hula I would think you would be in pretty
good shape.
I had hopes of driving to North Carolina with a sister of mine to catch
James out there, however as Heidi would say the Universe has not been good to me
as of late. A brother in law 6 months older than I passed away Halloween
night. We have a lot of decisions to be made with my sister who has Parkinson's.
It has dampened my carefree spirit for the moment so I need you all to PARTY
for me for now. :)
I did manage to get to the election board today to vote and get that out of
the way.. Long lines.

Yep, she could have used that luck--but then again, if her beliefs are
correct then it's all over for her anyway, so doesn't matter, huh? What

If your supplies are back on I am happy to pay 5 dollars a gallon,
cash in hand, no questions asked, as much as you can carry. Just bring
the cans along to the Bristol gig...

Anyway, new group member and long time listener with more of James'
stuff on my iPod than anything else. Just found this group and am very
pleased to make your various aquaintances. I am also keen to hear from
anyone who might make Bristol and save me looking like a lemon but I
will hijack another thread nearer the time ;)

I agree with him I think someone decided to turn the nob off for
awhile. As far as I can tell the demand is the same, and people are
keeping their cars (can't get credit) so I don't get it but then I
don't get a lot of things these days. Of course the election is just a
breath away and maybe they (who ever they may be....) thought a little
gas in the tanks would look favorable on the ticket.

Everyone hated her at the shop and that's why I had to come in early...the shop
was still closed and no one was there...maybe she was a little paranoid too who
knows. She was an interesting character and I haven't thought of her until James
mentioned atheist (she's the only one I knew). One time she did let me put some
curl to her hair and she looked a lot less butch and we laughed like little
school girls. Well I don't know about you people but I'm nervous.....waiting ,

Yep, she could have used that luck--but then again, if her beliefs are
correct then it's all over for her anyway, so doesn't matter, huh? What
a story! I bet she was an interesting person.

My mother always says....In a house where there isn't anything going
on.......... .No one lives there. As for the Atheist comment from James.
Back in the early 80's I just started haircutting (Barber by trade) and
I worked for HairNaturally, the beauticans were up front and the barbers
were in the back. I was the newbie so they gave me all the customers
they didn't want ( I was also the youngest). One day I was told to come
in at 8:00am (that's early for haircutters) to do a customer(no one
wanted to do her hair) and that she tipped really good (well, that's all
they had to say to me...money talks b.s walks). I went in and this older
lady (to me remember I was younger back then) was Madalyn Murray O'hair
(the famous atheist in Austin). Well as usual I didn't know who she was
and no one told me. So we are talking and I wanted to be creative with
her hair and she wouldn't have it so I gave her this awful boy's cut. As
is usual I B.S. with my customers and
we got into religion and she said she was an Atheist ...I remember
saying there is more to life and death then the here and now, things
exist in the immaterial world that manifest itself in the material world
and we see it and feel it every day. She just laughed and said I could
careless what people believe but I definately want separation of church
and state (I didn't have any problems with that so ...we became barber
and customer for awhile and for the record I think she was a decent
person (but that's just me). I also remember her saying she had one son
that was a good kid and the other not worth much, so I wished her luck
with them and she said "when you have brains you don't need
luck"......hummmm, guess she could have used some luck in the end. Just
saying.

What a beautiful poem, Heidi. And Belva, I'm sorry to hear of your
losses and troubles. I truly sympathize. You seem to be a strong woman
and it sounds like you are really there for your friends and family.
There are times when we have to pull back and do the hard work that this
life often requires of us.

This poem spoke to me as well because last night I learned just after my
hoopdance class that a sweet, young, beautiful friend, newly married
(just two weeks), who drummed for us hoopdancers, passed away the night
before in his sleep. No reason, no warning, out of the blue. I am
grieving the loss of a beautiful soul. Today I go to the doctor with my
mom, who has just been diagnosed with cancer. Sorry to unload here, but
I'm kind of reeling from it all. And so much riding on this election
day. Part of me illogically feels that they should postpone the election
for me because there is just too much going on. I'll be thinking of you,
Belva, and wishing you and your family well.

Heidi Zuhause <heidizuhause@ yahoo.com> wrote:
My condolences to you and your family Belva. A poem from me to you.

On Joy and Sorrow
Kahlil Gibran
Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes
filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can
contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the
potter's oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was
hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is
only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that
in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Some of you say, "Joy is greater thar sorrow," and others say, "Nay,
sorrow is the greater."
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits, alone with you at your board,
remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.
When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver,
needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall.

Beth how fun was that! Did you just get up and decide to fly to Austin
or
what?
From the looks of your Hobby of Hula I would think you would be in
pretty
good shape.
I had hopes of driving to North Carolina with a sister of mine to catch
James out there, however as Heidi would say the Universe has not been
good to me
as of late. A brother in law 6 months older than I passed away Halloween

night. We have a lot of decisions to be made with my sister who has
Parkinson's.
It has dampened my carefree spirit for the moment so I need you all to
PARTY
for me for now. :)
I did manage to get to the election board today to vote and get that out
of
the way.. Long lines.

Welcome Thomas.....well, I hear Russia wants to build a pipeline along the sea
shore to Germany and the US has investments in the Caucasus which would have to
go through Georgia (probably coming up from Iraq through Turkey), maybe you guys
can tap into those? But then again you are an island unto yourselves. How about
we ship you some fine musicians instead for now. ;-) Sorry it's election night.

awhile. As far as I can tell the demand is the same, and people are
keeping their cars (can't get credit) so I don't get it but then I
don't get a lot of things these days. Of course the election is just a

Just for a moment last night, I got “hubrised” out, and thought maybe Obama
would actually take TX …. You forget how the rest is, when you just stay in
the Austin/SA area ...

However – halleluiah -- Utah is not longer the reddest state – Obama did
remarkably, at about 35% of the vote. Might not sound like much most places, but
here? Deep behind the Zion Curtain, it is indeed a feat.

Obama and I are the same age, born in adjoining states -- Mo (still undecided?)
and Kan. In the summers I went to Arkansas, a town on the Tx border. I can
remember, just, when they had white-only drinking fountains. I remember as a
small child it puzzled me, because this drinking fountain I remember was made of
porcelain – so it was already white, I sued to think. But I was too young to
really verbalize that.

I also remember when the black folk had to sit in the hot balcony of the picture
show in that town.

I grew up with some mighty racist kinfolk, too.

Thus, I was moved to tears many times last night. An historic moment, one I was
not certain would happen in my lifetime. Our president-elect has a hard road in
front of him. But I am very hopeful.

I also grew up in a very racist area, Smithfield NC, proud home of the KKK.
There was a giant sign anouncing this allegiance as you crossed the Neuse River
into town. I saw it almost everyday until I got to adolescence. I remember
hearing adults talk about cross-burnings in hushed tones. This is indeed an
amazing time to be an American and for once, I am mighty proud. I have to say, I
was also touched by the generosity of John McCain's speech. I felt like he took
the high road there (even if his audience didn't) and seemed to speak more
naturally and from the heart than I'd heard throughout the election. Or perhaps
he was just plain relieved that he didn't have to be the president for the next
four years. On that note, here's a little humor I received today that rang quite
true:

so it was already white, I sued to think. But I was too young to

Politics and Religon are two very volital subjects. I just lost the connection
with someone over politics and in truth although I never said it to him , he's a
racist (he made several comments that can only be construed as racial
overtones..."they all look alike", "bone in her nose", but he did have the
audacity to say I had the "attention of gnat"...to which I retorted "that must
explain why I thought you were such a good lover"...... OH and that I just don't
get it. Oh, I get it alright I lived with that shit all my life! Not mexican
enough because I'm to white, not white enough because of the surname Rodriguez,
mustn't forget all the "jew them down" jokes....oh i get it alright...just sick
of it that's all. Your friends will like you no matter what and the educated
(not necessarily academicly) are to wise to be locked into tunnel vision. The
only song of James's that I dislike is the one that has "lock your doors caz
we're going into Niger town, but
we're not suppose to call them that anymore"....thank goodness it's just a
character played out in a song but those kind of people are still alive and
well. Sorry about venting ..I'll go back into my little corner now and behave.

at the absolute HATE seeping out tonight. Have yall heard much in your
travels tonight? On the issues, can a newbie do worse than W? Probably
not. But on another level...Are you hearing Obama dismissed because
of his heritage or death pools and shit started already? The ignorance
astounds me. I grew up in small town Texas, but I live in Dallas
now. It certainly isnt the most liberal city.....but we have close to
5 million people here and I'm shocked at what I've heard. I'm tickled
he won...and expected some static.....but damn. It's 2008

Wow that brought a smile to my face! The McMurtry fans playing cover songs of
McMurtry, now that's flattering to any musician. Sorry can't play a lick (pun
intended).

All;

I am looking for others in the group that have been or are working on
transcribing the chords and picking patterns for his songs. If so, is
anyone interested in sharing them and maybe working together on them??
Is there any interest for those of us living in the Austin area ( or
visting) for starting a get together to play???

Welcome Thomas.....well, I hear Russia wants to build a pipeline along the sea
shore to Germany and the US has investments in the Caucasus which would have to
go through Georgia (probably coming up from Iraq through Turkey), maybe you guys
can tap into those? But then again you are an island unto yourselves. How about
we ship you some fine musicians instead for now. ;-) Sorry it's election night.

Cheers,

Thomas.

Belva and or Heidi,

I'm a little late on the draw.
Did James say he is an atheist?
It would not be shocking for me
as a lot of intellegent people
come to that thought. My daughter
says she is and I tell her at
23 years old, agnostic may
apply more. At least it leaves
the door open for wonder. Hope
you both are doing well.

Love, Nancy

Hi Nancy, I don't think James did. Hmmm, Heidi mentioned that she used to
have a client in Austin who was an atheist .I forget the lady's name. I forgot
her name because I never cared to know it. Ha! B
