I've enjoyed your variations of these beautiful
Christmas tune. I'm curious about the 'sound-on-sound'
recording. You only list two performers. Did both of you
play two parts each and joined it all together
somehow?<br><br>Leo

Thank you Leo!<br><br>The way we worked it,
Harriet Dearden played the violin I part while I played
the piano for the Cello part, and then we used
sound-on-sound to allow her to play violin on top of the first
track for the Violin II and then Viola parts. It was
quite an accomplishment and fun to do!<br><br>We had no

On the week of May 3, 2002, Composition Quarters will be featuring
James Signorile's Twilight Dreams, for Brass Quintet. I will be
posting here the comments made in Composition Quarters about Jim's
piece, both thumbs up and thumbs down comments.

That's the case with the first comment. Anita Gomez writes:

"Twilight Dreams is very beautiful music and [it's] modal. There's a
little flub around 2:10 [in the MP3 recording, but it's] no big deal,
[it] is [a] very nice performance overall. [This] music makes feel
like dancing [in the] court-like, graceful [manner] of ... dancing at
Renaissance fairs."

Next, we have a comment from Joe Turbessi, who writes:

"[This piece is,] of course, excellent music. The opening modal theme
was simply gorgeous. One thing I would criticize is that it sounds
like a bunch of themes thrown together — it is obvious where they
begin and end and that the transition material was written after the
themes. On the whole, however, the piece does come off as being
fairly convincing, except for the last theme that begins at about
1:55. This theme sounds appended onto the piece, and I would
recommend disposing of it."

Next, we have a comment from James Wolovchek, who writes:

"[I] assess ... James Signorile['s] ... tone poem ...
[entitled] "Twilight Dreams" ... [to be] mildly dull."

I didn't know you wrote poetry, Jim. I just got done leafing thru
Bob Happleburg's poetry magazine and read your poem "Why do you sit
their?". Though in all honesty, your a much better composer than
your a poet.

Bob,

Yes, I agree that I did not have a calling as a poet! It was fun
writing a few poems and songs and if anyone else wants to read them,
they are at:

http://www.geocities.com/~jsignorile/songs.html

BTW, were can I see Bob Happleburg's poetry magazine?

The poetry magazine can be read at
<http://www.geocities.com/abehonest1/index.html>. You will need
Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or higher. Jim's poem starts on page 6.

My friends,

My good friend Lorin Swelk graciouly offered to do a new
realization of my MIDI sequecing of MARS (from The Planets by Gustav
Holst) and a little re-sequecing was also involved. I really think
this is the best and most realistic rendering I have ever heard, and
it is as true to the original composers score as I could make it.

If you're interested, you can hear it on mp3.com at :

Enjoy!

Subject: The first version of my personal mp3 page
signorile

I recently decided to sign up with a real web hosting company to use
instead of my Geocities site (which was becoming too expensive for
too little) and I was contacted by ADDR.COM ( http://www.addr.com/ ),
which offered me, for $14.95/month, a site with 300Mb storage, 30Gb
traffic and 40 email boxes (and lots of other stuff - you can pay
less and get smaller amounts too). They offered me 3 free months, so
I decided to give it a try, and so far I have been very happy with it.

I transferred the domain PIXELDREAMS.COM that I have owned for a
while to this new site and copied over my entire GeoCities site,
including the RealAudio and MIDI renderings of my music (
http://pixeldreams.com/music.html ). I wasn't sure how well it would
work, but I also uploaded all my mp3 files there and also created m3u
files to do streaming, and put together the page :

http://pixeldreams.com/mp3.html

which is a copy of my page at MP3.COM, except that I haven't put up
the information about each work yet. It seems to be working really
well, and now I have all my music on one site that I own, and that I
control, so I don't have to worry about Geocities or Mp3.com going
away. I, of course, have to hope that ADDR.COM stays around! :)

If you get a chance, take a look and/or listen. I think for the
price, it's a really good deal.

BTW, http://jamessignorile.com/ now redirects to my music page there
as well.

My mp3 page at:

http://pixeldreams.com/mp3.html

is now complete, as far as files and info goes. I still want to add
more to it...pics, bio, etc, but all the music and descriptions are
there! It was a tedious job, but if mp3.com goes away, I'm all set.

Enjoy!

A hearty welcome to Dr. S. Pelican, who I know well, even though he
has reached the ripe age of 126 - but being those are in Pelican
years -- well, he could be other than that age. But actually he is
ageless since because of the look and color of his cellar stairs, he
has had to live in the attic for so very long...

Ya had to be there.

Hi Alonso!

Long time, no hear. I hope you've been well and creatively
occupying
your time. I honestly am in a hiatus from writing for a bit. Part
of
it is the long hours I have to spend at work these days and also I am
finding it pretty frustrating not getting my music played much, and
it's hard to get motivated to write without opportunities for people
to
hear it. There was a concert last spring of my flute quartet
Breathless by the Generations Chamber Ensemble:

http://jag_webpages.tripod.com/generationsce/gen_spng05_flyer.html

which was great, but that was about it. But I go through these from
time to time, and I'll come out of it one of these days.

I have been playing guitar almost daily as a way of relaxing after
work, and that is another form of music I really like, so that is
where
I'm at right now.

It's SOOOO nice to have a real post here for a change, rather than
all
the spam I've been getting. Thanks so much for checking in.

Best,
Jim

Very, very unfortunatly, due to virtually all new members and posts
being SPAM related, I have had to change the membership of this group
to Restricted. This means that I must approve all membership requests.

If this becomes a problem with too many SPAMMERS trying to get in, I
will sadly CLOSE this group to future membership, and set up a private
place where the current members, and persons they recommend only, can
join.

I am not happy about having to do this, but SPAM has made the Internet
a not-so-friendly place to hang out any longer.

Say thanks to all the SPAMMERS who have nothing better to do with
their pathetic lives than ruin the freedom of others.
