Hello JAMIROQUAI Club Members,
Sorry for the lag from the last update, as always, my work schedule
negated me from updating when I could. Here's my thoughts about the
AMAZING newly released Jamiroquai Live @ Montreux 2003 DVD:
Yes, oh, yes, I got my copy of Montreux on Monday night and couldn't
stop projecting weird dance shadows through my apartment window Very
Happy. All in all, EXCELLENT DVD, jam packed with those great "JK
inbetween stories" we have grown to love from the LIVE Jamiroquai, and
totally breathless at the full live treatment of "Butterfly". The new
factoid nuggets we learned from J concerning JAS and others was very
very interesting, I still wonder what the "mistake" was in the 1 take
of JAS be mentioned. Very Happy But my favorite "moment" from the DVD
will have to be during "Space Cowboy" from Montreux 1995, when J is
staring into the camera, brandishing a blunt and the cameraman gives
him the "thumbs up" gesture back at him from the left side of the
camera, THAT ROCKED, especially how nimble J's hands were when singing
and not dropping it Very Happy. Tip of the hat at all at Eagle Vision
DVD and others for bringing us all this great Jami DVD, and hope this
is just the beginning of more Jamiroquai Live Gigs to come to us
through them and other companies!
In supplementary news, there was a FABULOUS write-up about
Jamiroquai in the Montreux DVD booklet by Dan Gennoe, the same fellow
whom wrote a write-up in last year's Jamiroquai's High Times DVD and
CD release. Fellow JamiroTalker admin and kind friend CosmicMouse on
JamiroTalk.net scanned the write-up and posted it for reading, in
black in white, but you can check it out here, VERY VERY good reading:

Now here's the latest:
1# Jamiroquai percussionist Sola Akingbola (LINK:
http://www.solakingbola.com ) has recently released a album of
percussion called "Routes to Roots: Yoruba Drums from Nigeria".
"Yoruba folk music is renowned for its advanced drumming. Although
there are a plethora of drums the music is based mainly around the use
of hourglass-shaped tension drums or dundun. It is this music that
forms the basis of the West-African influence in diasporic musical
styles typical of Latin America, the Caribbean and especially Cuba.
The iyaalu is the lead drum used in a drumming ensemble; it is made to
`talk' in such a way that the sound of Yoruba, which is a tonal
language, is skillfully imitated."
More information about the album can be found at the ARC Music
website (LINK:
http://tinyurl.com/295v9y ).
In addition to the ARC website, the album is available now to
download from iTunes UK (and other international iTunes music stores).
The physical CD can be ordered from stores including ARC Music,
Amazon.co.uk and HMV.com, where it has an official UK release date of
19 November.

2# Jamiroquai backing singer Hazel Fernandez is currently featured
on a track by UK house artists Freemasons. The track entitled 'If'
can be heard at the Freemasons MySpace site (LINK:
http://www.myspace.com/freemasons ) and is also available on their new
album - Unmixed. Freemasons are one of the artists who remixed
(Don't) Give Hate A Chance back in 2005.
Regular readers may recall Hazel recently performed with artist
Nitin Sawhney.

3# Jamiroquai drummer Derrick McKenzie has posted a new blog entry
to his MySpace site. In addition to taking about the work he's doing
with artists Sophie Delila and Nude Continuum (he's just done another
remix for them that is on his main MySpace page) he gives an update on
Jamiroquai...
"...really looking foraward to getting back in the studio with the
guys and dong jamiroquai stuff once again and taking the whole thing
up another notch!!!!!!!!"
"I have been practising and listening to a load of different

4# After the success of the signed funkin.com t-shirt charity
auction held in June of this year, a new auction has just started to
raise money for the same charity - Macmillan Cancer Support.
The item listed at eBay is the Emergency On Planet Earth CD
album - signed by Jay Kay and Stuart Zender.
"The album that sparked both Jamiroquai and SZ's career. The
youthful Stuart had managed to earn himself some serious credit and
interest with his involvement and bass playing. When he admitted he'd
only been playing bass for two years before the album was released,
the sound of jaws dropping was no doubt audible. He became a bass icon
practically overnight" www.stuartzender.co.uk
The insert from Emergency on Planet Earth was originally signed by
Jay Kay on 25th October 2006 prior to the BBC's Electric Proms
performance at the Jazz Cafe. The insert was signed by Stuart Zender
after Mark Ronson's performance at The Pyramids, Portsmouth, 22nd
October 2007.
The auction is listed at eBay (LINK:
http://tinyurl.com/2mk3xa )
and ends on 22 November.
