Re: [jazz_guitar] Home recording question

Many of here favor macs but getting into recording, if you already
have a fairly fast computer these are the way to go. The cheaper the
recording application, the fewer the features and sometimes they are
simpler to use. You need an app that handles audio and midi equally
well. Biab will save it's songs as standard midi files. This is very
useful because it contains all the instrument assignments to avoid
having drum parts played on flute of zither. However, you can also
just record the stereo out of a sound card [poorest possible quality
and cheapest] tho the sounds that come with biab are about at this
level and are eminently usable for practice and music/recording
study. The Line 6 stuff is probably in the i/o department and should
be on par with most of the stuff in it's price range. You want to
avoid using the converters in you mac if you have one, or pc. Both
are equally poor quality. The stuff like Line 6 or Maudio is a step
up in quality. It's best to try several lite versions of recording
software to see which one suits your temperament. Try some demo
versions of the biggies down the road to open the doors of recording
and editing [ for me this is half the fun] power at the price of
complexity. Most apps are similar with a tape like transport section
and a tracks window where you must tell the app where the audio is
coming from and where to send it for listening. Correctly installed i/
o hardware make this a breeze because it will already be listed in
the source and out put sections of your tracks overview. Good luck.
You already have one of the most valuable tools in Biab. Hope you got
the version with real drums. They are a quantum leap ahead for BiaB
tracks.
