yes ... you are correct, I wanted to have you notice the fact that you could
play chords that utilize "Bb" as a 7th as in Cm7 or C7 even thought you may have
Eb aug ... with the B natural ....

Subject: Re: [jazz_guitar] Eb Chord Progression Question
Hi John.
Started working with the information that you gave me; still have a ways to go
in sorting it all out.
But it has been very helpful.
A follow-on question:
You stated that you could change the selected chords to 7ths "as long as it
doesn't clash with B natural".
While other responders pointed me to the C harmonic minor scale to replace the
Eb Augmented 5th scale, it would appear that the Eb Augmented 5th scale is
nothing more than the Eb Major scale with the 5th note sharped. In the Eb Major
scale the 5th note = Bb.. sharped it becomes B natural.
So....B natural becomes the focal point of the Eb Augmented 5th scale.
Therefore, for any chords that one might select to play under the melody line
that have a "B note" as part of their make up, that "B note" must
be B natural to fit with the Eb Augemnted 5th scale and to stay "in focus".
If the scale were Eb Major, the "B note" in any underlying chord would need to
be Bb.
Is this a correct analysis??
(Remember that I am a computer type and not a musician so I've got to work the
logic out in my head in order for it to make sense to me)
Thanks and Regards,
David
