Hi Doug,
Assuming you want to play back a BIAB tune and record it's output and
your "live" performance simultaneously, I'd recommend a small stand-
alone recorder of some type that will allow you to get a stereo pair
from BIAB on it's own tracks and a centered track or stereo pair of
yourself. This is so you can make some changes to your performance
like tone (EQ) and volume in the "mix" when you're happy with your
performance "take."
There are a number of good 'lil digital boxes out there, ranging in
price from a $100 or so, to the moon. Getting the whole job done
using only your computer is a big deal by comparison, even if you have
a Mac or smokin' PC. What kind of quality you expect will set the
price point, and just about any of the stuff out there now allows you
to import audio files to your computer and mess with them further,
make mp3 files, CDs, etc. Shop around on the online stores like
Music123.com musiciansfriend.com sweetwater.com samedaymusic.com etc
etc etc. That way you can get a good idea of what's available for how
much and check the mfrs' sites for owners manuals you can download and
see exactly what's you're getting into. It ain' all that hard to pull
off... ;)
Best regards,
...z
