Re: FW: UK: Musicians' Union Issues Musical Challenge
--Bobby,
I think what bothered me was the fakery not the music. I watched the thing
"live" and and said to myself "self, that is the most awesome thing you have
ever witnessed." Really beautiful and inspiring. It actually looked real ---
except no music stands. You mean they played that perfectly, in those
circumstances, in that cold (pianist had mittens, i remember), by memory? A new
piece of music? Pastiche though it was, it was very classy. Fooled me for a few
minutes until i saw that no one was looking to the fiddler
for downbeats or cut offs.
This is a Photoshop age. Those who have never "punched in" may throw stones, but
Jesus is still writing his indecipherable message in the sand. For now we see
through a glass, darkly, but then face to face: now I know in part; but then
shall I know even as also I am known.

First of all, the group "miming" the music also recorded it. The temperature was in the 30s, and there was no way to keep instruments in tune or fingers warm....

Perhaps your gig wasn't televised nationally, or maybe these world- famous virtousi should take your advice and play in drafty cafes instead of concert halls...
Perhaps it would do these "world-famous virtousi" some good to play in ordinary places. Then they might develop some sense of pride and honour. It is obvious...

Hi Jim, ... That's the point, exactly. I thought I said that, but there ya go. Ron Murray, you quoted my text, but added no response, so there was nothing for...

Hi Will, ... Agreed. The question seems to me to be about whose decision it was. And if it was an outside decision, did the musicians have no say in the...
... This issue came up before, or at least it did on one list, maybe not this one. If memory serves me, they were well heated for their "pseudo-performance"....
Well, of course, we have no way of knowing if those "valuable instruments" were, in fact, their own or were perhaps provided for the taping. Four world-class...

I feel sorry for them. Can you imagine the time and effort needed to be one of the world's best performers of your instrument and then told you have to "lip...
