If the concert has excited you to play or sing jazz, then join the Thomson Jazz Club. The Thomson Jazz Club may be regarded as the unofficial national jazz club for amateur and professional jazz musicians and vocalists. Located at the Thomson Community Club, they conduct jam sessions, band practices for the performing groups as well as jazz workshops among other things. Whether you are new or a veteran to jazz, there is a place for everyone.

 

Listeners are also welcome to sit in the jam sessions held in the air-con function room.

The participants also deserve our thanks. For without them, we would not have four hours of music and dance. Not only that, the appearance of Lindy Hoppers from all over the world also helped to spice up the event.

 

Finally, we would also like to thank the audience for supporting our local performing groups. Many people are paranoid over SARS. It was Mother's Day. There was a little drizzle before the concert began. But despite all these, many people turned up.

 

We certainly look forward to another such event next year.

The Thomson Jazz Club comprises many amateur and professional jazz musicians and vocalists from Singapore and all over the world. To-date they have three big bands and also some small ensembles. The Thomson Swing Band plays big band and swing favourites every month at the Harry's Bar (Boat Quay) accompanied by Lindy Hoppers from Singapore and all over the world. The club also conducts regular jam sessions for experienced and budding jazz musicians and vocalists. Listeners are welcome to sit in and enjoy the music at no cost.  Thomson also organises other programmes such as jazz workshops among other things.

 

You need not perform in any of Thomson's bands to be eligible for membership.

For the first time ever in Singapore, and as part of celebrations for the 10th Anniversary of Thomson Jazz Club, we are bringing together every single big band in the country for an unforgettable evening of jazz music. 8 jazz ensembles, including all three of the Thomson groups, NUS Jazz Band and music ensembles from ITE, Singapore American school and United World College will perform swing, jump, latin, funk and vocal music.
