Timbre launches “Timbre Concert Series” with “Mardi Gras @ Timbre” - A tribute to New Orleans Funk & the Blues with New Orleans Legends, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band (USA) and rare performances by Singapore’s very own Ublues.
Long Live The Dirty Dozen Brass Band! - Elvis Costello
17 April 2007 – Timbre launches a new concert concept and experience fusing an outdoor concert with dinner and drinks under the stars at its distinctive location. The headline band Dirty Dozen Brass Band are one of the most successful and innovative music groups to emerge from New Orleans, ranking them, along with Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, The Meters/Neville Brothers and The Marsalis Family as icons of the city's musical legacy. Over 25 years ago and 10 albums, the founding members of The Dozen first took traditional brass band music and introduced modern influences such as jazz, rock and funk to create a genre-defying musical stew, a sound that continues to earn the group international praise and regular appearances at many of the world's most prestigious festivals and concert halls including Fuji Rock Festival, Sydney Festival and more. Their new CD "What's Going On", released on the one year anniversary of the Hurricane Katrina catastrophe translates Marvin Gaye's moving songs into the Dirty Dozen's own musical language.
Over the years, they’ve won the approval of fans, critics, and collaborated with a wide variety of pop, rock and jazz artists including Dizzy Gillespie, Elvis Costello, Black Crowes, David Bowie and Dave Matthews. This concert is a must for fans of New Orleans funk music as well as jazz, blues, soul, gospel music and will be a rare chance for anyone to experience the New Orleans famed Mardi Gras music and atmosphere.
Performing alongside is none other than Singapore’s very own Ublues who will also be performing a series of concerts at Timbre after the concert. This is a rare appearance by Ublues and the first time they are playing in over a year. Despite going through hiatus of 2 years, the band was recently confirmed as the first Asian band to perform at the prestigious Barcelona Blues Festival in Spain in September.
