FREQUENCY OF THE CITY
FREQUENCY takes Singaporean musicians from the stage to the streets in an innovative music series that challenges them to create new works of art!
Armed with only an MD player and 2 tapes, our musical duo from different music backgrounds collect sounds from locations in Singapore that inspire them and collaborate to create a distinctive soundscape.
While following the creative process, we also learn who these musicians are and what kind of music they play. We also get music history information that will help piece together the music history of Singapore - Masterpieces are created from both personal styles and everyday Singapore sounds

If you have not catched the show, you should. Put aside your skepticism, if any, and be amazed at how seemingly "un-musical" sounds or rather noises (e.g. trucks) can be transformed into modern rythms under the hands of creative sound engineers.
In the episode featuring lawyer turned jazz singer Rani Singam and tribal house DJ Aldrin Quek, the theme was "wild". Sounds of animals, rushing water, etc, were recorded at the zoo and Wild Wild Wet. The recordings were then edited, manipulated & mixed - much like the sort of you hear in discos. Once done, the actual work began.
The song began with a shout which was actually a crowd watching a show at the zoo. That was followed by Rani telling a story of her trip to the zoo and something like that. Sounds & videos of animals, children playing at WWW, etc, were incorporated into it. The whole concept & MTV will certainly make you smile and laugh too.
So don't forget to join jazz pianist Aya Sekine & rapper Freaky Z in the next episode.
