For most treens, going back to school also means heading to the mall for back to school clothes and accessories. According to the National Retail Federation, back-to-school spending is estimated to reach $17.6 billion, up from $13.4 billion in 2005, and fueling this growth will be electronic and apparel purchases. More than half of teens, aged 13 to 17 will spend at least $200 on back to school clothes, according to a survey by Mall of America. Nearly a third of them will spend even more.
This school year, 80's revival is "in" says Sara Rogers of the Mall of America. Leggings, layers, chunky jewelry, oversized sweaters and skinny denim all the rage for teenagers and tweens alike. The "Goth" look is another trend gaining mainstream popularity. Inspired by movies such as "Pirates of the Caribbean" parents are approving this "look," so more teens will be sporting skull and cross-bone t-shirts and belt buckles.
