Hi friends,

Some nice reviews recently...especially from blogs. To some extent, I
think this is because the original, unmastered demo mp3 is in
wide-spread circulation after some Russian pirates included it on a
free download compilation a few months back. In the end, this has
resulted in great promotion of the track... Also, Diskokaine has made a
lot of promotion, of course...

"“I’ll Be By Your Side” is just so… sweet. It’ll have you hugging
yourself. Even though they’re doing different things, Sally Shapiro
reminds me slightly of Annie. Like they both successfully bottled the
same mix of carefreeness and coolness."
Travis, The Big Stereo (USA)

- from http://www.postcore.com/

"This something is named Sally Shapiro, and she has teamed up with
Norwegian [sic] producer Johan Agebjorn to release a terrific first
single, "I'll Be by Your Side," on Diskokaine. Preliminary buzz is
already comparing her to the likes of Annie and Robyn, but such
comparisons elide an actual listening to the music, probably because
it's easier to lump them in together by dint of their all being blonde
chicks from Scandinavia. No, Sally is much closer in every conceivable
way to the wistful italo of Valerie Dore..."

"I'm not 20JFG's italo expert so I can't really name names, only thing
I can say is that the sweet neon caress of her voice, laid over a
smooth pink cushion of 80s reminiscence (produced by genius Johan
Agebjorn and released by Diskokaine) makes me feel strangely, erm,
pastel."
20jazzfunkgreats (Brighton-based blog)

- from http://www.last.fm/user/sharevari/journal/2006/07/29/194772/

"I never heard more perfect italo disco in my life. It is absolutely
stunning. Sally's voice is airy, wafer thin, almost a whisper and fits
the shimmering music perfectly."
Erik Jälevik, Last FM

Also, Pig Radio has put the track at no. 2 in their dance/electronica
chart, after more than 50 plays! Extra fun is that it's an Italian
webradio...Italians otherwise have a reputation for not liking italo
disco anymore!

Last, but not least, Pitchfork Media told us they were "hopelessly in
love" with the track and asked us if they could put up the mp3 for
download for a few weeks, and we said yes. Again, it's the unmastered
demo mp3...

Infinite_Mixtape_28_Sally_Shapiro_Ill_Be_By_Y

"The legend is, Swedish producer Johan Agebjörn had to coax little
Sally Shapiro out of her self-conscious shell to record "I'll Be by
Your Side"-- and once he did, she wouldn't sing while he was in the
room. The result, however, is glossy and gorgeous, her bashful vocal
radiating against a bliss-struck backdrop of italo-disco dancefloor
nostalgia. Pitchforker Mark Pytlik called the track a "shimmery slice
of disco with a chorus that would have killed at Eurovisions '81
through '86" in his four-and-a-half-startrack review. It's been rocking
the office stereo ever since-- and now it's yours, the latest addition
to Pitchfork's Infinite Mixtape."
Ryan Shreiber, Editor-in-Chief, Pitchfork Media
