Sally Shapiro update Feb 2009: no live performances...but a new album
It's been a while since we wrote about what's been going on. After
coming home from our short DJ tour last spring, Sally felt that
standing on stage was not her thing, and that life on tour in general
didn't interest her. It was not just about shyness, it was as much
about a disinterest in endless travelling and working hours in the
middle of the night. Some of the live/DJ requests turned into Johan
solo DJ gigs, most didn't happen at all. Many people in the music
industry think it's commercially stupid, we lose a lot of opportunities
to gain listeners and sell records. And we guess they are right. We
also have the feeling of making our listeners (the ones that we met
were really nice) disappointed. But we believe that you shouldn't take
opportunities just because they exist, if it's not what you really want
to do. What if you just want to be a normal person with a normal job,
record songs in the weekends, and spend the holidays picking
blueberries instead of going on tour.
So that's what we have been doing with the project the last year -
recording songs in the weekends and Johan DJing once in a while. We
have rediscovered the joy in making music! Most of the new album is
finished and it will be released some time this year and probably a
single before that. It will hopefully make you fall in love with the
person sitting next to you on the bus. The album will be released on
Paper Bag Records in North America, Husmus Media in Scandinavia and
Permanent Vacation in the rest of Europe. Johan will continue to DJ for
those who want.
If you want to know more about it then there's an interview with us in
the winter issue of Under the Radar (though the album title and release
date mentioned there have been changed since it went to print) and
there's a few months old interview with Johan here:

More info to follow, of course - if you want to receive small frequent
updates (boring stuff like "the new single has been sent to mastering")
then you can now follow us on Twitter: http://twitter.com/sallyshapiro
Finally we want to thank everyone who has supported us, everything from
shouts on MySpace and buying our records to blogging about the music or
whatever...that has been a fantastic inspiration for us.
Love
Sally and Johan
