Some very good news from here is that Sally Shapiro has been nominated
twice for Plug Awards, an American award for independent music that
will take place in NYC on March 6th next year. Sally is nominated in
the categories "female artist of the year" and "electronic/dance album
of the year".

I've made a remix for the Spanish band Souvenir of their track "Âllo
âllo", it's being released on November 19th on their new CD EP "Extras
64", available from their label, Jabalina Música
(www.jabalinamusica.com). (This hasn't really got anything to do with
Sally Shapiro, but since the remix is made in the Sally Shapiro style,
I'm sending this to the Sally mailing list as well.)

Souvenir are in my top friends on MySpace in case you want to hear more
of their work. Both I and Sally have listened to their CD "64" a lot.

As far as my ambient album goes, that I signed a deal for this spring,

A lot of things happening right now:

- The first official Sally Shapiro music video! Pitchfork premiered it
yesterday, it isn't even on YouTube yet. It's made by Tarantula
Productions in Toronto and directed by Jamie Milligan. It's for the new
track "Jackie Jackie", and is about a young Sally Shapiro fan who by
coicidence is called Jackie. You can watch it here:

- The U.S. release of "Disco Romance" is getting a lot of airplay on
American college radio! This week it's #1 in the "RPM most added"
chart, which means it's the record that most radio DJs playing dance
music added to their playlists this week. It's also #19 in the "CMJ Top
200 most added" chart, which means the same thing but all genres of
music.

- If you're in Sweden then you can listen to P3 Lab tomorrow Thursday
between 22 and 23, they will be playing "Jackie Jackie" and talk a bit
about the North American release of the album.

Yesterday the North American edition of "Disco Romance" was released in
Canada! You can order it directly from www.paperbagrecords.com, if you
do that you receive a bonus CD label sampler including an exclusive
remix of "He keeps me alive" by Norwegian DJ/artist Skatebård. See
forwarded mailout from Paper Bag. In two weeks it will be released in
USA as well.

We're also glad to tell you that the "Johan Agebjörn featuring Sally
Shapiro" track "Spacer woman from Mars" (see earlier post) is going to
be released as a 12" single with remixes on Lo Recordings sublabel Loeb
(www.l-o-e-b.com). It was originally planned for November, but because
of the postal strike in England, the CD hasn't arrived to the pressing
plant yet! So it has been delayed until January. Tracklist and previews
will be posted when we have a release date.

Hi,

We have uploaded the new track "Jackie Jackie (Spend this winter with
me)" to Sally's MySpace profile and web site. After the two Nixon
covers "Anorak Christmas" and "He keeps me alive", we felt that we
still hadn't had enough of Roger Gunnarsson's song-writing, so we asked
him to write a song especially for Sally, and he wrote this song.

The track is included on the North American edition of "Disco Romance"
(out on October 30th in the US and October 16th in Canada), and will
also be released as a 12" on the Austrian label Klein Records together
with "He keeps me alive", "Skating in the moonshine" and 1-2 remixes,
to be released this coming winter (no release date yet).

We have also uploaded an extended mix of "He keeps me alive" which will
be included on the 12" on Klein. This mix features Skatebård
(www.myspace.com/skatebaard) on synth brass during the last minute of
the track. Thanks Bård, and thanks SLL for re-mastering the track!

Hi,

A new track is on my MySpace profile, "Spacer woman from Mars",
featuring guest vocals by Sally. We decided it wasn't a normal Sally
Shapiro track because Sally really is no spacer woman, she only
pretends to be on this track (whereas all the love stories on "Disco
Romance" are true). So this is released as the artist "Johan Agebjörn
featuring Sally Shapiro" instead.

The track is inspired by the spacesynth genre of the 80s, artists such
as Laserdance, Cyber People etc...

Available on the CD compilation "Milky Disco" out on Lo Recordings
(www.lorecordings.com) on Oct 1st 2007, including artists like
Lindstrom, Prins Thomas and Daniel Wang. Hope you'll like it!

Hi folks,

We're glad to announce that "Disco Romance" will be released in North
America with three brand new bonus tracks, the extended mix of "I'll be
by your side" and new beautiful wintry artwork by a Canadian designer.
The release will take place on Canadian label Paper Bag Records, who
impressed me (Johan) by having released Plastikman's latest album (I'm
a Plastikman fan since 1996) but who above all seems like a nice,
enthusiastic and professional label - primarily in the indie rock genre
but also with some electronic artists. See attached press release from

The three new tracks will probably be released in Europe as en EP
(hopefully on vinyl too) but we haven't decided on what label yet. More

Paper Bag Records Releases Sally Shapiro's US Debut Disco Romance

Track Listing Revealed, Release Date October 30, 2007.

Paper Bag Records is pleased to announce the track listing and release
of Swedish singer Sally Shapiro?s 2007 debut Disco Romance in North
America on October 30. The album was written and produced by Johan
Agebjörn and saw its breakthrough European release last year, making an
impact around the globe.  The US release will feature three brand new

all, ?I?ll Be By Your Side?, previously only available on vinyl.

The European release of Disco Romance was met with overwhelming
praise, earning an 8.5/10 and ?Best New Music? at Pitchforkmedia in
early 2007, a number 11 position in the iTunes US electronic charts and

magazine?s with the reserved and ambiguous Shapiro. Among others
enthusiasts were the Village Voice and The San Francisco Bay Guardian,
who claimed, ?Fans of St. Etienne and Annie should run out and buy it

Sally Shapiro has remained somewhat of an enigma and a mystery to her
followers.  She has, for example, turned up to her own release party
incognito, and is rarely photographed.  From a relationship born out of
mere office acquaintances in 2001, Shapiro and Johan Agebjörn found
common ground in 2004 when an exchange of mix tapes revealed their
shared musical taste which included such artists as Madonna, Limahl,
Visage, Savage and Fun Fun.  Eventually ?I?ll Be By Your Side?, the
single penned by Agebjörn, premiered on the popular Swedish P3.  The
care put into this new version will further secure its place as one of
the year?s most heartfelt and utterly irresistible albums.

second spacesynth megamix, called "Space wars". It's a free mp3
download and there's also 300 dpi artwork so that you can burn it to a
CDR and make a nice jewel case CD out of it.

The mix is made by Dutch DJ Kriss and it's very professional, over 40
tracks squeezed into 35 minutes, still flowing smoothly, so he's
probably put down quite a lot of work on it. My one-year-old track
"Overload" (released on the B-side of the original "I'll be by your
side" 12") is on it, although of course just a snippet of it. I can
recommend you to download the mix. If you thought spacesynth was dead
then you were wrong - there are thousands of artists out there, and we
all try to sound like Laserdance... (Which makes me wonder why so few
people are doing the vocal italo disco thing these days?)

Speaking of spacesynth, another spacesynth track by me - with Sally
Shapiro on guest vocals - will be released this autumn on a

- "Disco Romance" has been re-released in Europe and Australia with
reviews especially in German, French and Italian music press and

Hi all,

Some glad news from here: I've just signed a record deal with a U.S.
ambient label (not official which one yet) for an album to be released
this autumn.

As some of you know, in 2005 I signed an album deal with U.K. ambient
label Centaur Discs, the album ("Electronic impressions") was announced
to be released in the spring 2006 but since then the label's activity
has been non-existent and sadly, its future seems uncertain. So they
told me I could move on with another label if I wanted, and a friend of
mine (Stefan "Between Interval" Jönsson) advised me to get in contact
with a label he thought would like my music, and he was right.

The forthcoming album will include four tracks from "Electronic
impressions" and seven new tracks (one of which has been available as a
free download, so it's now replaced with an old track not on the album,
"Spiral staircase", a cover version of a track by my netfriend Eric
"Tone Matrix" Goldberg - check out the "unreleases" section). In other
words, if "Electronic impressions" ever gets released it will be with a
new tracklist (and so I've deleted it from the discography). The
tracklist of the new album is not official yet but it will contain a
lot of tracks with Lisa Andrén singing.

So it seems like my ambient music will finally be properly released...

Some good news: as a result of the nice reviews of "Disco Romance", a
lot of international distributors are now going to release the album.
Swedish Dotshop.se will release the album in the Nordic and Baltic
countries on April 2nd, which means that more record shops here in
Sweden (like probably CDON) will sell it. We're glad about this because
so far only one (!) record shop in Sweden has been selling the
record... You can already pre-order the album from Dotshop:

On April 30th, the album will be released and distributed by a lot of
international distributors (Rough trade, Shellshock...) in Europe,

limited pre-release (sort of) and the April release as the "real"
release. New promos will be sent out etc.

On April 30th, the album will be released and distributed by a lot of
international distributors (Rough trade, Shellshock...) in Europe,

section. Since we're speaking of bigger quantities now than the Clone
release in December, we regard the December release as more of a
limited pre-release (sort of) and the April release as the "real"
release. New promos will be sent out etc.

Some news from us:

- Som new remixes of Sally Shapiro are available...iTunes recently
released what was originally going to be the CD-single of "I'll be by
your side". It includes two exclusive remixes for this release, both
Swedish, one progressive house remix by Monodrive (a.k.a. Stefan
Jönsson) and one eurodisco remix by Chinese Theatre (a.k.a. Krister

According to the label, the new Sally Shapiro records (album + 12")
will be released either on December 4th or on December 11th, depending
on the distributor. CD, LP and 12" have arrived safely from the
pressing plant. Of course we will let you know when they are released.

Glad news: The announcement of "Disco Romance" with the free downloads
has received a lot of attention from blogs and online magazines...and
"Anorak Christmas" has been played a few times on Swedish P3 and
webradios. Also, Diskokaine has reported that the CDs have been pressed
without faults and are now at the distributor! So Clone is now actively
preparing a release in December, as planned. We're excited of course!

A new track which is an italo disco interpretation of a track by
Swedish indie artist Nixon. By a strange coincidence, when searching
for the songwriter/singer Roger "Nixon" Gunnarsson for the right to
release this track, he happened to already by a Sally Shapiro fan and a
member of this newsletter! This is a Christmas track so we really
really hope it will get released in time this time... It went to press
a bit late because we had trouble with the mastering of this track, it
was mastered 3-4 times before we were satisfied. In the end the Danish
producer SLL made a great job with it, though I made some final
adjustments myself. And it was pre-mastered on a reel-to-reel by
Swedish producer Q-Force...

A typical 80s extended mix of the original, very long as you can see.
It has an instrumental verse and chorus at the beginning, just like
Miko Mission "How old are you?", the breakdown in the middle is longer,
and the ending is different and more mix-friendly.

Dutch electro producer Rude 66 makes a fantastic remix here. I was very
glad he wanted to remix it, because his track "Overkill" is one of my
favourite tracks from last year, I voted for it in the CBS Top 100. And
I was NOT disappointed with the result!

Another strange coincidence was that one of our Swedish fans turned out
to live just across the lake Åsunden, a few kilometres away from
Mossebo where "I'll be by your side" was recorded. We discovered it
when he gave me his address so I could send him the 12" - instead I
delivered it personally. He also turned out to be an established
remixer, and he delivered this funny but good remix with some retro 90s
eurodisco feel...

Swedish producer Stefan Jönsson (also a member of the duo Halftone,
whom I made a remix for myself recently) makes progressive house under
the name Monodrive. I think this remix is great and I hope it will get
some play in the more mainstream house clubs!


The original 12" is still getting good reviews, being played by DJs
etc... It's on electro DJ The Hacker's playlist for this month and
"Overload" has been played by Legowelt's DJ compagnion Speculator. If
you search a little on the web you can actually find downloadable DJ
sets/mixes with all four tracks on the release... Our web site is
updated with the new reviews, mostly blogs but also De:Bug and Stylus
Magazine.


Last but not least, we will also soon release an album (on CD, LP, mp3)
