Dear Luc,
thank you very much for the link of the Hummel recording at the
Salzburger Fetsspiele. I bought the CD, and it is really worth
while. It is a little bit more refined than the recordings of
Lahusen and Osetinskaya, yet not as "polished" as Shelly's version
on Chandos.
I also found another CD, one of the very many versions of the Soanat
for viola and piano op. 5 no. 3. This time done by Tanja Schneider,
Viola and Vassilia Efstathiadou, Piano. Pleyed for "Primavera".
This version is very interesting: Instead of playing this sonata
very tough and almost childlike, like many people do, especially
those who play it on "original instruments" id est Hammerpiano or
Fortepiano, they play it very modern, polished and they have the
braveness to even point out new hidden melody lines in their
interpretation, like Glen Gould very often did with Bach.
This is the only recording of the Viola Sonata that is definitely
played in the style of romaticism.
Therefore, it's a very good counterpoint to my favourite version of
op. 5, no. 3, played by Ralph Holmes (he plays it with his own
Stradivari VIOLIN)and Richard Burnett on the original Graf-
Fortepiano).
Thank you againg for the nice hint and have fun,
Jeff
