Greetings, recently picked up this book -with CD- by Norwegian
journalist Randi Hultin, who interviewed -and also offered hospitality
to a number of famous Jazz musicians visiting Sandanavia in the 1960's
onwards. There is a fascinating chapter on John Coltrane, amongst
other luminaries.Randi Hultin also visited Paris in 1965, to meet John
Coltrane and to see him perform live. Apparently he performed a forty-
eight minute version of 'A Love Supreme'.
Have only dipped into this book so far but it looks like a fascinating
read.
Regards
48 minutes????? Talk about heaven right here on earth!!!

Hi!
No mention of Rahsaan in the book so far and can't find an entry in
the index.
It's a great read but the writer must have had the patience of a
saint. Her account of trying to interview Dexter Gordon in his hotel,
is hilarious:Randi Hultin eventually gave up waiting, and went home.
Only to find Dexter Gordon following her back and banging on her door
at 5.30 am.
He stayed with her for a couple of days, and one evening when Dexter
was meant to be performing live in concert, he locked himself in her
bathroom and wouldn't come out for an hour and a half!
Randi Hultin's memories of dealing with John Coltrane seemed to have
been less fraught, and there is also a section on Elvin Jones which
is interesting.
Glad to see the 48 minute 'A Love Supreme' has been released on CD.
Regards
Michael
