Hi,
I'm Erik from Norway, Europe.
I was looking for a John Waite chatlist and found 3 on Yahoo groups, so I
decided to join all three. Doesn't look like there are many posts on any of
them, but I'd give it a try.
I've been a fan of John since "Missing You" but didn't have many of his albums
since recently. With Ebay (especially Ebay Germany) I've ended up with some
unofficial stuff, as well as the Cds that are still available on CDNow and
Amazon. I even am the proud owner of a Canadian gold record award of the "No
Brakes" album (can send you a scan if you're interested). Now I'm looking for a
signed copy of the LP to hang up on the wall right next to the award.
I didn't buy the "Figure in a landscape" CD right away, because I was sort of
disappointed with the "When you were mine" (it was a little too country inspired
to my liking). But I finally bought "Figure" and it's been growing on me,
actually I now think it's one of his best albums. Maybe I should give "When you
were mine" a second chance as well.
I was thinking of making a Norwegian John Waite site, but thanks to you guys out
there, there are excellent sites already (especially johnwaite.com, netwaite.com
and johnwaiteonline.com) so it won't be necessary. I've made sites for other of
my favorites who aren't exactly in the headlines anymore, just to promote them
again. One example is my David Cassidy fan site (the link is
http://www.angelfire.com/celeb/dcassidyfan if anyone's interested). It was hard
to find stuff about David before I made my site, and it seems like new fan sites
have improved since then, partly because of my big effort of making a decent
discography, which even the official davidcassidy.com has used. I met David's
wife Sue Shifrin a couple of years ago, and she thanked me for my site. But now
I've decided to close down that site later this fall, because it takes too much
of my time. It has grown too big for me. (Try and print it out, it'll be more
than a 1,000 pages - I know, because I have it all on paper) Instead I might put
more work into my other two sites: the Australian singer Jon English
(http://www.angelfire.com/rock3/jonenglish) and the Chinese female rock singer
A-Mei (http://www.ameizing.homestead.com/- she surely is amazing, I bought one
of her CDs when I visited Singapore a couple of years ago, and when I came home
I started buying the rest online, along with concert DVDs - didn't know the
Chinese could make such great rock music).
I'm pretty sure some of you have had encounters with John Waite that are worth
telling about. I have never met John, or seen him in concert (the closest is my
copy of "No Brakes live"), but I'm one of the many European fans who hope to see
him over here soon, even if I doubt he'll be coming to Norway. Or hopefully he
will be touring the summer of 2003 in the Midwest of the US, which is where I'll
be heading. I can always hope.
I'm looking forward to get to know fellow fans.
Erik
