Hi,
I just joined the list, cause I got an xbase this morning. What a nice
part!
The xbase says its operatingsystem is 2.08, is there a big difference
to 2.09 or whatever the actual OS is, and .. can you upgrade it via
MIDI or do you have to replace parts?

Thats it so far from southwest germany... have a nice weekend,

So what's the goss on commercial use of the Xbase09?

I heard a rumour that one of the spice girls producers
used an Xbase09.

What about the rest of you people?

I personally love my Xbase09, the best kick drum in the
world and it sits beautifully with my music tweaked
through a nice analogue desk. All my planned tracks
for release will be making good use of it!

Cheers,
Lukas

I was wondering why the airbase has a stereo output instead
of just a mono out? Is there anyway to adjust the panning
of individual hits (that are sent to the Stereo out)? As far as I can
tell there isn't...

Any enlightenment on this subject

I was just wondering how many techno headz were on this list? I'm a
huge techno fan and do a techno Live P.A. I wondered if anyone wanted
to swap xbase studio or live programming tips? Currently my studio is:
the xbase09, an mpc2000xl, 606, 110, ddd1, paia fatman, yamaha dx21,
yamaha cs1x, sequential circuts 6 trak, casio vz10m, peavy sp, (2) dbx
kompressors, lexicon efx...etc...

Anyway, i'm running all three outputs of the jomox through independent
channels of kompression. The forth channel of kompression is spread
across my second efx loop. I've found this to be necessary in
exploiting the beauty of analog noise. You can completly cut or expand
on the natural pops and clicks created by the oscillators. After
getting a kit created a was playing around with some patterns last
night and stumbled accross some very "Surgeon" sounding beat.
Amazingly simple and subtle, yet with eons of room for expansion and

and a clickly clsd HH @140 BPM of course!

Hi Kevin,

I've done a live techno PA with XBase and MPC, 606, 101, etc. What I did was
keep the XBase in write mode and just change patterns on the fly. I had a
handful of "stock" patterns that I knew I could switch to, and then within
that "track" I would just work with that pattern. I kept pattern 16 in each
bank cleared so I could cut out the XBase without hitting channel mutes on
my 1604. I had two-measure loops of MIDI (driving MIDI-CV converters for
SH-101 and Moog Source) and samples in the MPC2000 and muted/unmuted them in
the track mutes section. Each "sequence" was actually just a collection of
tracks. The master clock was a SP-12.

For my last PA I ditched most of the equipment and went with XBase, DR220E,
TR-606, SH-101, TB-303, Zoom 1201 and AS FB3. It was a lot more "live" and
freeform than the other set, and I used the XBase in a similar way. No MIDI
this time, nothing preset. I just winged it. It was a blast.

David.

David,

For your P.A. do you typically run two bar loops on the MPC? When you
say two bar loops are you referring to a combination of midi data and
two bar long samples? I've found the combination of Acid and
FruityLoopz especially nice for editing my samples for the MPC. I had
a little run in with some disk problems though. I was using a zip to
transfer wavs to-and-from the PC from the MPC where i initially sampled
the sounds. I also had some program files on this PC formatted zip
disk. Pretty soon, i'm not sure what triggered it, but all the waves
and other stuff on the zip became useless to both the PC and the MPC.
Luckily, i had the sounds and other stuff backed-up. To hopefully
avoid this problem, i've created a MPC formatted zip and a PC formatted
zip that is only for transfering wavs. I use the PC disk only to move
wav files from one place to another, when i go out, the MPC formatted
disk also contains wavs, prgs. set. etc... , but this disk will never
touch the PC again. I can't be sure which one caused the prob, and
maybe the manual lends some enlightenment, but hopfully the situation
is cured.

What type of Live P.A. do you do?

that's a good way to work the xbase(with a blank pattern). i'll offten
fill the last 3 out of 4 patterns of each bank with rolls, and the last one
blank. i'm reall considering modifing my xbase with three toggle switches
for the instruments. writting on the fly is cool too....if you know what
you're doing.

If you're not too sweaty on stage, rolls are a lot of fun live--unlike the
roland "equivalents," on the xbase you can run your finger up the step keys
and turn them all on or off--it's fun to do a roll like that and start
turning them off as the pattern is still running--chasing the current step.

hi,

I would like to trade my Jomox Xbase for your Airbase. It has the latest OS
and it is in excellent physical condition and perfect functional condition.
We each pay our own shipping but I ask that you throw in $75 to make up the
difference between the two as far as used prices are determined. Your Airbase
must have the latest OS and it must be in excellent condition physically (the
face) and perfect functionally.

In case you're wondering why I want the Airbase, it is because I use software
sequencers and don't really have the need for more than one hardware step
sequencer (i.e. fr-777) at this time. I also don't need the knobs since the
Airbase has plenty of drum kits.

Thanks,

Shawn

Has anyone ever experience a problem with the sync on the Xbase09? I
have a modified TR-606 and a Boss DR-110 (with a sync mod added).
Since both of these boxes are modified i'm having a hard time realizing
whether my problems might be arising from the JoMoX or if the blame
lies in the other two boxes. Is there a method to determine via a
digital voltmeter if the sync is functioning correctly? Both the 606
and the DR-110 respond in similar ways, they both start when i start
the Xbase but shortly there after they loose sync, yet when i stop the
Xbase everything stops as it should. The 606 will start and hold a
sync or the appearance thereof for much longer that the 110. As far as
i know nothing in the mod's of 606 have ever changed the sync circuit.

Basically, is there any history of the xbase09 having sync situations?

I seem to remember someone having a similar sync issue with their 606 but
if I remember correctly, it turned out to be a power supply problem with the
606. Kevin, you may want to check the sync cable you're using to start off
with just in case it's bad, otherwise you way want to experiment with
different power supplies for your 606/110. Are you using batteries or an AC
adapter? It may make a difference or try different outlets in case one is
providing too much current? Also, double check that everything has the
right adapter connected to it as specified in the manuals.

Does anyone use their Jomox Xbase09 with Cubase ?
There are two things i would like to know:
1. Can you make an arrangement for the xbase in Cubase and
can you 'edit-in' notes in Cubase to 'program' the Xbase? (and is it
easy to set up?)
2. Let's say you've made a few 16-step patterns with your Xbase's
stepsequencer,
can you import them to Cubase?? (and is so, how?)

Thanks very much in advance.

1. you can arrange with any sequencer using standard program changes. I do
this with StudioVision. works pretty cool. just send the program change a
bar before you want your new pattern change. If you have a 32 step
pattern, it gets a little trickerier, but fiddle about with the placement
of the program change and you'll get it to work.

2. just plug the midi out of your XBase into a midi in on your interface
and record into your sequencer. you may have to split up the notes into
sepearte tracks for your various parts (kick / snare / perc)

And if i do not want any program changes; just use the 3 'instruments' it has;
all i have to do is assign from within Cubase a midichannel to the Xbase and
i'm ready to go? Still confused, sorry... ;)

Hey fellow beat makers..

I've had this noise problem with my Xbase since I got it (I think/or I don't
remember when I first notice it), and its not the normal studio noise/hiss,
its loud, I have to lower the volume on the mixer when there's no music
cos it so loud & annoying, it changes tone when I switch between the
settings of the midi clock (int/ext). when I turn the master volume knob
to full: its more of a hiss. but when its all the way down: its more of a
high
frequency buzz, and when its at 10 o'clock the buzz is at its lowest
volume, but still very loud, it has 20 x more noize than any other kit in
the
studio,... the iduvidual outs r not affected by the master volum controle
and all in all r not even close to being as noizy.

I've lived with it for 3 years, and always forgiven the Xbase as it such a
sensational instrument!! lets read that again ""sensational instrument""
but
if I can have it fixed I'd b happier, so what exactly causes its buzzing?

and Brana I don't know if u ever got my replies, if not let me just say it
one
more time: thank u ever so much for all your effort/help and support, and u
have my vote if u ever run for President :) simply great dude
folks!!

and give it up for the brilliant dudes at Jomox for bringing
us this:: sensational instrument!! I just cant get over how great it is ., I
really can't,..

Ari

Hi,

I've had the same problem since I upgraded the OS. The sync out always
worked perfectly, now my 303 and/or 606 drift noticeably within only a
couple of minutes. I wrote a track based on this problem (a MIDI-clock
controlled pattern and a 303 pattern; when they drift by 1/16th, another
hybrid pattern emerges), but that's one trick that I'd rather only use once
or twice--not always!

I'm using the recommended PSU for both the 303 and 606 btw, and they always
worked great with the XBase09 before the OS upgrade. I've also tried several
sync cords, including an original Roland one, and I've circumvented my sync
splitter box, putting sync directly from the XBase09 into the 303. Still
won't hold sync.

Does anyone have further ideas?

David.
