Hey all,

I've got a couple of Jomox things for sale. I've got a JaZBase I'd
like to see $700 for, it's in near perfect shape, works great. I've
also got one of the early cream-colored XBase 999s for sale. I'd
like to get $1700 for this.

Let me know if you're interested! I'm fine shipping worldwide so
long as the buyer is up for the shipping expense. I pack things well!

Cheers,

Damon

Apologies to the AH members that have seen this email all ready.

Anyway, is there anybody out there who wants to swap their Monomachine
MKII for my Jomox Xbase 999?

Perfect working and cosmetic condition. Still in the fancy cardboard
box, with the original manuals (one in perfect German and one in
slightly dodgy English).

Pictures here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/skkatter/JomoxXBase999November2008#

Video of it in action here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ti3yXFoFwK4

According to Thomann.de a brand new Monomachine is 1255 Euro while a
brand new 999 is 1359 so we'll call it an even swap!

I am based in Berlin, Germany and would prefer to swap with somebody
in the EU to avoid any custom duty and VAT nonsense. I've got a few
Analogue Heaven references, 100% positive feedback on Ebay, and one or
two people on this list have probably met me in real life and can
attest to my trustworthiness in all matters except when it comes to
buying the next round down the pub.

Thanks for the response Watson. Ive assigned the filter to all of the
instruments (^) and have the VCA on full. Ive checked to make sure that
the LFOs arnt messing around with anything too. Have you had much
success with the filter your self?

yes, i dont have any problem getting it to filter specific instruments or a mix.  did you switch between the different filter(ie paralell, feedback etc)? i dont have it in from of me but when i can get to it i will start from a kit with no filters and look at my exact programming and try and help you out.  or maybe someone else can jump in here before me and help,  either way we will get you taken care of, it may just take a couple of days.

i cant really think of anything else to mention off the top of my head but if i do ill post it as soon as it comes to mind.

yeah, you should reload the OS and reload the original patterns / kits. if i remember correctly there should be some patterns that use the filter.

How does the 888 behave if some other MIDI device is clock master?
How do other MIDI devices behave as slave if Ableton is the clock master?

Sometimes when stepping in and out of write, storing a pattern, or parameter
locking
individual steps, my 888 will lose sync. Can be quite annoying. Definitely
wouldn't use
the box live.

I have no problem with Live acting as a master clock for outboard gear - however I did notice that with my 888 there seemed to be some timing issues that I would also have to adjust for (I recently sold my 888 so I can't provide any other input).

Like others, I have never had an issue with Live sync'ing, other than
issues with the way I have had things configured (eg my fault).

It sounds like your sync'ing is good apart from being a constant 40ms
out? If so, this is very likely to be because Live has incorrect
latency settings. There is a great Live Latency tutorial under Help.
This walks you through a very simple test to configure your latency
(auto detect will often not be very accurate). The first time you do
this setup, it might take 15 minutes; thereafter, probably 5 minutes.

Let us know how you get on.

For sure, you have a setting in pref midi Live that adjust midi sync delay! You will have to enter -40 and try! This worked for me! But if you have several drum bar(as me), it becomes a real problem, cause I noticed there is a different latency for each drum bar!!   I suggest you also to buy real good manufactured midi cables!
I noticed also a big problem with Live and the MAQ16/3.......if you want to pass the maq midi notes thru Live...... You will have two latencies added...... The latency of the midi sync and the latency of the midi notes passing thru Live!!!!
I already contacted Ableton for this problem and nothing seems to have been corrected!!! So I never buy yet the last version of Live that it is unusable for me in real live syncing!

Yes Paul, you are right about that it syncs perfect at 40 ms...so its
likely to be an issue with my latency settings. Thanx for the tip about
the latency tutorial in live...i will check it out tonight and try to
make it better...

Hi Alex

“But if you have several drum bar(as me), it becomes a real problem, cause I noticed there is a different latency for each drum bar!!”

The Latency configuration should be done globally in the Preferences tab.  The individual track delays that you refer to are for specific problems and if you are using these before having Live configured correctly, you will always be fighting against conflicting settings.  Generally the track delays will all be zero and are there to allow for sloppy external hardware (some old hardware synths can have MIDI latencies on 20ms or more) and very specific issues.

“I noticed also a big problem with Live and the MAQ16/3.......if you want to pass the maq midi notes thru Live...... You will have two latencies added...... The latency of the midi sync and the latency of the midi notes passing thru Live!!!!”

This will always be the case, with any DAW.  But again, it should be a very minimal problem once Live is setup correctly.  Maybe you should do the tutorial again (Help -> Lessons table of Content -> cant remember the rest).  I tend repeat the tutorial every 6 months or so but only because I am anal.  I like to know that if I hit record in Live, the audio coming in from my 999, or other hardware, will be tight within a few samples.

Also, the Live manual has some very good sections that help with MIDI and Audio latency.

Cool tracks btw, Alex.  Got them on whilst writing this..

I tried to use the search function but it doesn't seem to be working
properly.

I plugged my 999 using the individual outputs leaving the master out
reserved for the filter.

However no matter what I do, the kick and the snare keep showing up in
the main outs. This disappears if I mute the tracks or decrease the
volume in the main mixer...it's weird...all other tracks are silenced
when the jack is inserted but not the kick and snare.

what am I doing wrong?

thanks

My wandering interests and impulses brings to you the "version 3" of Phil Stearns/Pixelform's magnificent Pixel Maelstroms.
A complete audio-visual instrument.

I have three different versions of these ( v.1, v.3, and v.4) Which you can imagine is a bit silly considering....

from the creators website:

Version 3

Features ::
4 band audio reactivity with adjustable threshold controls (sub, low, mid ,hi)
4 independent oscillators
4 dual input ring modulators
24 point signal routing patchbay
1/4" audio input
1/4" audio output
composite video output
volume
2 "glitch" buttons

Built by: http://www.art-rash.com/pixelform/projects.html

For an example of the video output, you can peep some of the videos I have on http://www.vimeo.com/levlhed The particular videos on there (the funky 8-bit pixel blockage) were done w/the version-4. The video output is the same on the v.3 though, the functions of the two versions are very similar except the v4 has routing done internally where the v.3 uses external patch cables (RCA). I am including nice short colored patch cables with the sale.

Will sell for $425 + Shipping via Paypal
Or would like to trade for a Jomox T-Resonator.

Other offers considered.
I know I am new/quiet on this forum. I've got a 100% 200+ feedback on ebay.

The best example of this instrument I have online right now is a noodle I did running a bent SK1 into it. You can hear the "clean" SK1 in the beginning then minutes into the video, the osc's effecting the audio. I believe that's all that was used for audio on this.
http://www.levlhed.com/video/CarWash.xvid.avi (109mb)

The sync-destruction towards the second half in the video is my Rebelle, not done by the Pixel Maelstrom.

Hey LEVLHED....Go Pack Go!   (sorry, I know they are sucking, but I'm a huge fan and graduated Ripon college in 95)  In any case, I have a shiney nice T-Resonator for you, most likely... let me know the differences between v1-v3 and which one doesn't suck.

how well does this respond to 303 acid lines? (open ended overly simplistic question...)
e.g., what are the freq cutoff ranges for each freq zone exactly?

Hiya Shaggie,
I don't really follow sports, though I can say that I tend to like it when the Pack loses as I am originally from Michigan and therefore a Lions fan by blood (which is also a pathetic team)

I do not know what the freq. ranges are of each.  I can ask the creator if he remembers.
Since the output of each osc is summed to the mono output, I never really thought of wondering what the ranges are.
I don't have a 303-esque machine here or I'd whip up a demo.  If you need to see more examples let me know and I'll work on it.
I can say it reacts to all ranges of audio. Low jomox kick booms to high high hats. Each frequency and settings of the threshold tend to have a slightly different effect on the video.  between pixel-shuffling to color changing/etc

differences between the different versions?  hmmmmm.  The v1 didn't have direct audio reactivity.  It was designed to react to other circuit bent items on an electronic level.  I did have him knock me up a little box though to take audio in an trigger out.  It focused more on the video end and did not have any audio output of its own.
I never had a V.2.  I'm sure he has info on his site.
The V.3 has audio-in and the oscillators/etc. It turned it into a whole stand alone a/v instrument.  I really dig the use of external RCA patches.  It lends itself to this mad scientist/circuit bent aesthetic.
The V.4 is basically the same functionally, except the routing is internal and it also has these bad-ass photo-sensitive triggers.  I hardly ever use them.  I remember seeing a video of his using it with a TV creating a/v feedback loops where the flashing TV would trigger the audio which would trigger the video which would re-trigger the audio..

I'm keeping my v.1 and v.4 though:)
I can't say any of them "suck"!  They are all different and each successive version improved upon the last.  So while I'm not looking to trade the "final" V.4 version, in my opinion the V.3 is effectively the same from an audio/video final-output standpoint.

We can continue to discuss off-list.

cheers!

how well does this respond to 303 acid lines? (open ended overly simplistic question...)
e.g., what are the freq cutoff ranges for each freq zone exactly?
