Hi Eugene,

I can confirm the first bug you described. About the second I can't say at the
moment because I don't have my 999 here.

some problems with MIDI volumes of OH and CH in new OS. If you play some MIDI
notes, OH will play with one loudness. But if you hit OH trigger, xbase will
start to play them louder. But if you push Start button or press Write button,
loudness will back to first one again. Same is correct for CH behavior.

I'm getting some very odd behaviour with the panning following this OS update.
I'm using an 888, and instruments are seemingly randomly panning themselves left and right.
Also only encoders 2 through 8 have any effect on the panning.. the first encoder no longer does anything (but it should do the panning for the Kick drum right ?

Still love this drum machine though.. wow what a sound

Cheers

No, it's normal, there has never been panning for the kick drum.

In the manual :

The keys (Shift/Cancel) + (Step 9) activate the Stereo Panning
function which controls the stereo pan position of the instruments in
the main mix except for the bass drum.

Hi all

I have noticed that the SunSyn does not seem to be very reliable at handling
MIDI CCs. For example, if I have a pattern generating 3 or so lots of MIDI CC,
it seems completely random which ones will actually work. As a test, I had a
look that simply turns on/off each of the 4 oscillators by turning the volume to
zero. Playing the loop seems to give random results; sometimes it is fine and
other times the message is missed. Has anyone else noticed this?

Im running 1.22. I know there is a 1.23 but it does not mention any fixes for
the above.

Btw, today I emailed Jomox hopefully asking if os2.0 will ever be available as a
field installation. I expect the answer will be "no" but its worth asking..

I had to deal with this issue when I had my Sunsyn....

As I recall you really want to upgrade to 1.23. There were issues with previous versions, to the extent that you can actually trash your sunsyn. I wound up doing so myself, but found the next version much better.

Hi - thanks for the replies.

Yes, I upgraded to 1.23 and it does seem to be better at handling CCs. The
upgrade was actually completely painless, unlike my 999 upgrade experiences..

Regarding a possible field installation of os2: Jurgen replied in his usually
manner (I think he thought I was insulting his mother)..!! Anyway, the answer
is "no" (his was capitalised). As I expected, there is more to it than just
pluggin in a new PCB which is a shame as I would rip his arm off for a 350euro
field instal kit. Like others, I just dont want to send my SunSyn via courier,
partically because of the cost, but also it is too scary!!

I will need to think about os2 a bit more.. Anyone know if os2 will tame SunSyn
sound in a negative way (we all love its dirt!!)

Hi Mark - starting a new thread...

"Hey Paul you know I have sent it over twice from the US now, once when the ROM

Yeah, Im sure Im just being paranoid. One thing I cant work out form the Jomox
site is if the 350euros covers the return cost?? Sure, we pay to get the SunSyn
to them but it is implied that Jomox then pay for the return "Price incl. VAT
plus Shipping costs".??

Question: did you notice if os2 takes any of the edge out of the sound? There
are various sound enhancesments regarding stability, but do these remove a
little of the SunSyn mojo??

Thanks,

Paul

1. IIRC, yes I didn't have to pay additional shipping. What I don't recall was whether that was included in the  invoice after I ordered the change.
2. No change in the wild , orgamic "analogness". The biggest change for me was that I no longer hold my breath on boot up.

In the third column of SunSyn mod matrix, the top selection is labeled Control
Elem. The manual implies that it has something to do with routing MIDI
controllers to routing elements (Menu -> Edit -> Modulate -> Ctrl ->
[dest=R1/2/3/4AMT, AMT, Curve]) but it also says it's "always active", and when
I try to affect Routing Element k by setting the dest of a midi controller to
RkAMT, it seems to work exactly the same whether the selection in third column
of Routing Element k is Control Elem, nothing, or one of the other options (VCO
1 saw, VCO 2 pulse, ENV 1, etc.) (My SunSyn is 2.0).

So as far as I can tell, Control Elem doesn't do anything. My best guess is
that this hardware feature was designed for an earlier version of the software,
in which MIDI control of the mod matrix worked differently.

Am I wrong? Does it do anything?

Hi - LFOs in drum synths don't typically get much use however, you can get
some interesting stuff with them. Typically I use them as an extra
envelope but setting them to synchronised so they reset with each trigger.

Last night I had a very cool snare sound going where I had the LFO -> Snare
Tune, square wave then fine tuning the rate so the sudden ramped pitch
became in time with the tempo, giving a second off beat sound. Playing with
the snares decay then made this sound louder/quieter.

Also, use the LFOs for sweeping the HH filters, especially when you have the
resonance on max (only LFO1 allows a HH Filter Cutoff destination).

But experiment - they are fun and you can get some cool grooves going with a
little tweaking..

assigning them to the kick drum tuning is an interesting effect. sound great assigned to tuning on percussive hits. also just applying the filter to hat patterns

Hi - honestly, have a play and you will not get confused - it really is very
simple..

Just had a go myself and did this:

http://punkdisco.co.uk/misc/gear/jomox/888_LFO.mp3

bar 1 is straight (but with pitch envelope on the kick as Im running an 888)
bar 2 LFO1 mods kick pitch
bar 2 LFO1 mods kick pitch
bar 3 LFO2 also mods kick pitch
bar 3 LFO1 wave change
rest of the clips is just another two samples I had in the 888

have fun and post any cool findings..

Hi all,

I was experimenting with using an external clock via "shift/cancel"
and step 11, and then I turned it back to "INT" . When I press the
start button, I see the LED's move over the steps, but there is no
sound. I do get sound out of the unit when I press the bass drum etc
keys. Any idea on how to get sound back coming out of the unit from
its preset sequences?
