Seems noone answered until now.

I am quite sure that only the original wallwart is broken. The Mbase
should be fine. I don't own an amabase, but according the pictures on
the jomox website it should be a standard wallwart 9V DC with + at
center pin and -. at the outer contact.

A 300mA DC wallwart should be fine.

Hi,

Does anyone have a part number or supplier for the potentiometers used on the
XBase09? They are standard 20k pots but have an extra pin for some reason (it
does not seem to be connected, only the first 3 pins are used.

Also, is it normal for the up/down buttons to not light up at all? Mine have
never done so, but looking at the circuit the LED's are connected.

Cheers, vout

Hi Vout

No ideas for the pot..... but for the buttons up/down it is normal that they do not light. On mine, they never light too.

Hi,

Thanks for that info Alex. I am repairing my XBase09 and I discovered something
that may help others (it may have been mentioned before, I don't know) -

Loose or wobbly knobs/potentiometers seem to be a very common problem on these
machines, especially if they have been used a lot. I found the problem is mainly
caused by a deformation of the metal casing of the potentiometer. The
potentiometers used are made from several parts which are clamped together by an
outer metal shell - this part bends at the top and no longer holds the shaft
guide in a rigid clamped position.

To fix this problem, you need to first disassemble the machine - this is easy as
the XBase09 is really rather well designed, just keep a note of where all the
spacers and nuts/washers go and reassembly will be easy too!

I found I needed to unsolder a single wire that connects the two main circuit
layers to get easy access. Once you have the control panel out, examine the
loose pots and it is easy to see where the metal has deformed. Use a small tool
(I used the nose of a small pliers to push against the metal) and you will find
it is easy to push the metal back into shape with a controlled amount of force,
this will tighten up the potentiometer - it is possible to get them feeling as
good as new. Don't use too much force, and support the circuit board while doing
it, remember you are pushing against a part that is soldered directly to the
board. It seems to be the thin metal at the top of the pot that bends most, but
also the bottom part can be pushed down a bit, it all helps.

I found this fixed all but one of my loose pots, and the best bit is you don't
need to desolder them to do this.

I had one pot that was still loose after doing this, it had been physically
damaged and the plastic shaft was loose in the metal shaft guide. However I was
able to fix this also, by desoldering it from the board, disassembling the pot
and applying one turn of PTFE tape (plumbers tape) to the shaft - this was
enough to tighten it up so it feels ok again, but I would like to replace this
one, hence my original post.

I must add a disclaimer - I cannot be held responsible for any harm done to your
XBase or yourself if you attempt this repair. Don't do it unless you are
confident of your skills. Also you should always ground yourself when working on
equipment like this.

Hopefully this info will be of use to others.

Cheers, vout

Hi,

I see the Xbase 999 / 888 both got updates in December, has anyone tried them
yet?

Also, the Sunsyn OS got updated to 2.02 but there is no info on what got fixed.
Does anyone know or has anyone tried it?

Cheers,

Hi! I tried this one on my 999.
Nothing special! Same bugs. After this update I asked JM about further updates and bugfixes (especially I was interested in fix of bug with wrong OH level with MIDI from external sequencer). But JM said that there wont be any new fixes, be cause memory is full!

So guys we will have to use it AS IS.

Yes I have upgraded from a really old OS, something like 1.2x to this 1.45. Much much much more solid, but not quite the A/B comparison to 1.44.

this is a lifesaver!  thanks.  it would have cost me $120 to get an adapter from Jomox shipped here.  This cost $20 shipped.  My airbase99 wall wart gets extremely hot and the electornics seems to be loose inside the plastic.  I have a gig coming up and it was making me a little uneasy.

Yeah, my original Jomox adaptor was the same way and then my LCD starting to go blank soon after power up, with no sound. I purchased a couple of those new adaptors and haven't had any issues since. I always have a backup adaptor on hand, especially for shows.  :)

There should be a program for osx on that site. It's pretty basic but it does the job. No need to boot into windows or something....

I can't copy paste the whole link from my phone. The name is 888 editor 1.4. It's in a DMG file for Mac. The program will automatically truncate the sample and convert it to 32khz / 8 bit for you. So you can us any format samples as your source.

Have fun! And do try to use a bunch of sk1 hats in the close and open hat slot!

Hi just found an interesting thing while trigering the mbase with machinedrum.
Previously I got it working after a while of random friging around.
But today it only triggers once in a while.
But I noticed when I had another midi track going (controling something else) it
worked.
So I programed some random constant midi changes (mod wheel moving) and it was
fine.
Not sure if its the machinedrum or mbase at fault.
When I use cubase its fine cos there is always midi mesages going.

Hi!!
Don't worry ! It is just a problem with the Bulk Load patch...... Maybe a problem of midi data transfer !
You have to reset the SUNSYN to recover its state before the bulk load patch!

I'll mail you in private the procedure

hello,

i am using jomox xbase09 for quite some time but i never managed to make my
workflow completely clean. i control jomox from ableton live (8.2.6) via midi
clips with envelopes for each parameter of the sound.

however, i found that i cannot just set the envelopes to the values i want from
the beginning of the clip. such envelopes seem not to be received by the jomox
sometimes. my workaround is to include an envelope slope of a very short
duration increasing from 0 to the value i want to set right before the first
note hits.

does somebody encounter similar problems? any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello

if I did understand you right, then this is like it is. It is the way
envelopes (=MIDI-control commands) do work with external gear.

The external gear has its own parameter setting defined by its internal
patch memory (lets assume we have a gear, which has only one parameter
and this parameter is set to "50" by the patch). Now you send a Note.
This note will be played with the parameter value 50. If you want it to
be played with a different parameter value, then you first(!) have to
send the new parameter value, and after that you can send the note
command, which will be played with the new value. That is, what you are
doing with your "workaround".

Hey everybody, proud owner of two XBase 999's looking for some quick help.

I am unable to save the global midi settings, most specifically recv/send channel and clock out boolean. They will work for the boot of the machine (temporary, in buffer), but no combination of keypresses or anything else has seemed to work. Please tell me this isn't just an engineering nuance.

If it is, how hard is it to hack up the firmware - from anyone who has worked with Jurgen or tried. I am an experienced software developer of 15 years with fairly limited EE but this would obviously require cooperation to be a reasonable task.

What version of firmware are you running ?
what key presses are you using to alter the midi channel.. I can compare when I get home if that helps ?

Hi Aesis

I believe there has been an issue with saving the Clock INT/MID setting with
older O/Ss but I think this is now fixed. I just tested it on my 999
running the 888 1.08os

I also just checked changing the "TxmCh" from 01 to 02. This saved
successfully even after a power down.

What OS are you running? It could be you need to update to the latest..

Regarding having the OS opened up for OpenSource use, Jrgen has commented
in the past that this will not happen. The OS is exclusively owned by
Jomox.

Hi

I managed to get the sunsyn working at displaying whats on the screen Blind! as
the attempted soundbank update screwed not only the display but put the midi
channels on some crazy numbers.

The unit is on 1.23 now but i have a problem now that the values on the led
screen jump randomly, very annoying! Also i ocassionally hear a pop sound when
playing patches ?

I tested my midi interface with the proper transfer program and it passed over 5
times so no problem with that. Fast Track Ultra.

JM said in an email that he is too busy for me to send the unit in to
Get it updated to Version 2 and said to wait about 3 Months behind others who
are in line!
