Hello Everyone,

As many of you know my song, Chosen Path, was nominated for a Native-E Music Award (NEMA) for "Spirit of the People".

Last night was the awards show and I have terrific news. Chosen Path won the Spirit of the Peoples Award! Actually, two awards were given in this category because the music was so diverse and the talent was surreal. Mr. J.D. Nash also walked away with a Spirit of the Peoples for his song, How You Gonna Be. It was such an amazing feeling walking up to receive it, my heart was pounding though I was not nervous at all. More like exitement and relief.
I met with Patrick Doyle, who is CEO of NativeRadio. com, what a great guy. I was also able to meet and greet several well known artists. The talent there was incredible.
Check out the NEMA site at: http://www. native-e-musicawards. com/home. html

I just wanted to thank you all for your support. It's been a great journey so far and I've loved every minute of it.

Hello Everyone,

I am back home from another 3 week outing in the midwest! It was awesome to meet some of you at these events! I even got to meet a friend of mine face-to-face for the first time after 5 years! Mike Moran. He and his wife both are special people. In fact, I played one of Mike's flutes my very first time on stage with Mary Youngblood! It's been a roller coaster of a ride in the past, but they cool thing about roller coasters is ... they're FUN ... unless you're deathly afraid of them. Then you'd better bring out the motion sickness patches! =)

Ok, back to business! Many of you know that I have a new CD coming out on October 1st. If you didn't know, well then, Surprise! I have uploaded two new songs from

Cross Roads: The Beginning of a Brand New Day

on my MySpace page and they can be located at: www.myspace.com/sparkyunplugged2 The two songs are,

Sunshine on a Rainy Day

A Little More Time

Take a listen and let me know what you think. This is just 2 of 14 songs on the album! Lots of variety in this new CD as well.

I've also email Chante Ishta, host of Two Worlds Radio WMNF 88.5 Tampa/St.Petersburg, two new tracks that she will be playing soon on her show! So don't miss out on her weekly Two Worlds broadcasts LIVE at http://www.wmnf.org/programs/show/168 on Sunday Nights from 9:00pm-11:00pm EST. By the way I will be on Two Worlds October 12th, 2008 for a LIVE interview and to play a few more new cuts from my new cd! Mark your Calendars!

Other news: I will be leaving Friday the19th headed out to Albuquerque, NM for the Native-E Music Awards. The song, "Chosen Path", has been nominated for a "Spirit of the People" Award. So I will be attending the Awards Banquet on Saturday Night. Keep me in your thoughts! I will also be traveling to Buffalo/Niagara Falls, NY on October 3rd for the NAMMYs. Public voting is still underway! www.votenative.com I'd appreciate your support by voting,Transitions: Out of the Flames & Into the Wind for Native Heart!

Thank you all! Happy Flutin!

 Hello All!

Musical Echoes was a blast and a half! I went down to Destin a week early and camped out right by the beach and continued to do so throughout the event with Randy and Shelly. It's gorgeous over there. I now know why they call it the Emerald Coast. The whole weekend was filled with flute music, good food, plenty of friends, and tons of good vibes. I had so much fun time spending time with my flute family, I hated to see it end. I even met some new flute people and made some good connections. All the performances were great and it was wonderful to have Mary back again this year. I was given the opportunity to share the stage with all the performers this year and I've just now started slowly descending from cloud nine. It was amazing! I just want you all to know that I have very much enjoyed your friendship and I look forward to the next time our paths cross again. Until next time, Happy Flutin! -Jonny L.

Hi, all. I'm still on an Echoes high. Sigh, so many flutes, so many
positive, encouraging people, so much soul-feeding music.

I got this in my email today from Chante Ishta, and with her
permission, am sharing it here, so we can all relive Echoes on the
airwaves together!

Deborah

Hey Everybody!!! I just returned from a glorious time last weekend in
Ft. Walton Beach at Florida's own Musical Echoes, one of the largest
annual Native American flute gatherings in the United States, where I
was an emcee for the 3-day event, along with flutemaker Dusty Moore,
and I want to tell you a little bit about it.....

What an incredible time for all! The event featured so many wonderful
musicians including Mary Youngblood, Arvel Bird, Michael Searching
Bear and TJ Marlatt, Jeff Ball, Mark Holland and Autumn's Child,
Nation of Change, Raymond Red Feather, Jan Seiden, David Maracle,
Morgan Fawcett, and Ed Winddancer. Billy Whitefox, our Florida State
Commissioner and NAMMY winner, and, Jonny Lipford, our youngest
performer and awesome flutist, also gave an incredible
performances!! Also, there were some of the most incredible
flutemakers in the world there selling some mighty fine flutes, as
well as, a host of other wonderful vendors. The weekend was packed
with people coming out to enjoy the music and share smiles with each
other. WOW!!! What a great time....if you weren't able to attend this
year, I sure hope you will mark your calendar now to be a part of the
fun next year!

Tomorrow night, Sunday May 4th, on TWO WORLDS, your all Native
American radio show on WMNF 88.5 FM here in Tampa, or www.wmnf.org
worldwide, I will be presenting a very special show honoring the
music of Musical Echoes. If you love the music of the Native American
flute, then this is a show you definitely do not want to miss!! We
will be dedicating the whole show tomorrow night to the flute and
will feature the music of all the artists who were featured guests at
Musical Echoes, along with some of the independent flutemaker/players
that offered me their own CDs while I was at the event.

And as if that wasn't enough, we will also spend a few minutes
talking with two time GRAMMY award winning flutist Mary Youngblood,
who has graciously offered to come on the air with us for a short
interview from her home in California! Mary has some very exciting
news to share with us, and I am sure she will have lots of great
things to say about Musical Echoes.

So be sure to tune in tomorrow night, Sunday May 4th, from 9-11pm EST
for the best of Native America on the best little radio station in
the world, WMNF 88.5 FM, for two hours of all Native American
music.....and do come on back every Sunday night cause there's always
something good going on on TWO WORLDS!

I am so happy for you and all that you have done this past year! As you know I will not be at echoes this year because of moving to Kansas City the weekend before it. I have to do what i have to do. Guess I will have to wait until October to see you. I am performing on Sat. at the Oklahoma flute fest. At least this year I will be close enough to drive to it. My last performance in New Jersey will be at a boy scout camporee where I will spend the day teaching 35 boy scout troupes about Native American flute and giving them a 30 minute concert later on. Two days later I am flying out of NJ. All the best to you my friend!

Hello to Everyone!

It seems like just yesterday we were preparing for a new year and getting things in line for upcoming things. Well, spring has sprung and now we're all busier than ever it seems, at least I am.

I just wanted to give you guys a little update on what's been going on in my life as of late and what I have coming up. I started performing every Friday night at a fine dining restaurant locally (The Grotto). I also started a new job at the local "everything-in-one" store. I'm still booking gigs and have already started working on the next calendar year. All in the mean time planting watermelons, keeping a garden up, and tending to our goats. I can't complain though. I'm happy and healthy and that's what matters most.

We all know that Echoes is coming up next month. (Can I get a hoo-hah!?) I'm extremely anxious! I'm excited that Mary Youngblood will be back with us this year as I'm sure most of you are as well. We're going to get some stage time together and relive that very first encounter, a beautiful duet, on stage back some three Echoes ago. Musical Echoes is like a birthday, a new beginning, for me. I mark my flute journey with this event because it was my very first flute event, the first time I played in public, and was where I met so many of you awesome people. My journey travels long and far but my heart will forever be attached to Musical Echoes and most importantly, the people who support me ... so, thank you everyone. You've been a blessing and I'm looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible this year!!

I will be one of the headliners at the Sunwatch Gathering, Oklahoma Flute Festival, and the Silverhawk Gathering. I will also be performing at the INAFA Convention, Musical Echoes, and a bunch of various festivals here in the tri-states (FL, GA, and AL) area. Check out the calendar to see when/if I'm coming to your area. http://jonnylipford.com/calendar.aspx You can also keep an eye on things on my myspace: www.myspace.com/sparkyunplugged2
By the way, if you know of any music festivals that might be in need of a fluter, give me a holler!

The Signature Flutes are going well, and fast! The single digits have been long gone but not to worry, there's still a few more flutes left but I wouldn't slack off for too much longer! This summer I'll be going to Zion Canyon Flute Fest with Randy and Shelly Stenzel, what an awesome couple of spirits! I'm going to stay with them for a little while after we get back to dig my hands into the flute making again. I really enjoyed my "playing with the making". (there will be an article on in INAFA's next VOW issue). We will also be traveling to the INAFA Convention together. Then it's back home for me and off to college!!

Some of you have inquired about the next CD. Well, expect a greater mixture of elements and genre blending sounds. I think you guys will really enjoy this next CD. Here's the plan; I'm hoping to have it out and release it at the OK Flute Festival this October!! <Glup!> I better get a move on soon!

So, that's a little update on how things are going in my life. Now,  let's talk about what some of you have going on. Who's going to Echoes or any of these events I've listed? I can't wait!! There's gonna be some serious jammin' going on! Oh hey, anyone get any new flutes they wish to tell us about?

Till next time - Happy Flutin! -Jonny L.

-Jonny L.

Hey Gang!

How's it going? Sure has been quietly lately. I don't know about you guys but I sure am getting anxious for Spring to hurry up and get here. Too bad that little groundhog had to predict another 6 weeks of winter, let's hope he's like our local weather guy - totally unreliable! Oh hey! This is leap year by the way. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything but I just thought I'd remind you. *smile*

Do you know what takes place in the Spring? Musical Echoes! This year is going to be great and yes, we will have (the one and only) Mary Youngblood joining us again this year. Echoes this year is just going to be awesome!! With that being said, Mary and I have a lil something planned; we're going to debut some new material ... with each other as an accompaniment! We're starting to work on a songs to play with each other on stage at Echoes. So this will be a real treat you surely wont want to miss out on!! We're also planning to be on each others next album which has been a rumor for a little while but has now been confirmed. I'm excited!

I, too, have been working on new material and I'm hoping to get back in the studio this summer/fall for a fall/winter release. It would be nice to have it all completed by October but I'm gonna "go with the flow" and we'll just have to see how that flow goes. Things have really been looking up since the beginning of the new year. I'm really looking forward to seeing what this year has to offer. I just wanted to give you guys an update on how things were going. Oh, I'm still working on the "Fan's Page". It's a rather slow process because I'm having a bit of interference and a few minor glitches with the new host. No worries, it'll all be alright. So with all that being said I look forward to seeing you guys shortly down the road!! Happy Flutin! -Jonny

Two words............OH, MY!

Your news about appearing on a CD with Mary, and her with you is
totally wonderful!

As for Echoes, Traci, Megan and I have our rooms, and are "carpooling"
up together, so we're all set, ready and waiting.

We had our Wind Echoes concert last Friday night. I was so proud of
everyone! I botched a couple of tunes, we all squeeked a bit here and
there - nerves. Traci did a medley of tunes she had transcribed, and
Megan joined her for "Toot Sweet". Megan was so cute as our "Arf,
Arf" girl when we did "Doggie in the Window". She had a little blue
dog puppet. Folks loved her.

Traci debuted her own "New Day", on a high "E" (I think) drone. It was
so good. I am in awe of her gift for music.

Hugs,
Ann

Ann,

I'm glad you like the new page! The kapopelli is a little figurine made by Mike Knight. My mom contacted him just before Xmas to see if he could carve a simple little one for me to have. He did more than just a little simple one. It's awesome. The stand was made by Marsha. She lives just over an hour from here (Tallahassee area) and she sells stands on ebay. Ebay ID: standingflutes

She makes some pretty neat ones! She gifted me two little ones at Oklahoma Flute Fest last October, that's one in the picture. More stuff coming to the website so you guys keep an eye on things!! Thanks and Happy Flutin! -Jonny

fascinating kapopeli stand?

Looking forward to seeing you at ME. I might actually make it this
year! Especially with Mary performing. I've never seen her in person.

Hello Everyone,

I want to inform you of a few little changes recently made to my website. As many of you may know, I recently changed web hosts therefore letting me create my own website with much more flexibility. So I've created a new page on my website called, "The Music Room" This is just a few pictures of where the music is created. I thought it would be a neat addition to my website and give you guys a "backstage" look at it!

Also in the next few days/weeks, depending on how my schedule goes, I'm going to try to put up an actual guestbook like the old website had. I also plan to put the "Happy Flutin!" hats up for sale as well. So keep an eye out for those few changes. You never know what I might add to this site next! Also, keep an eye on the calendar because I might be coming to your area soon! Hope everyone had a safe and fabulous weekend! Happy Flutin! -Jonny

LOL - I was checking out your website. Now, keep in mind I'm on a PC
all day, and my pore ole eyes are really tired........

I scrolled down to the bottom of the first page and my first thought
was.....

OMG - Jonny tattooed his name on his arm???????

LOL - it was the signature on a flute.

I just gotta get out more!

Hugs,
Ann
