Hey,
I saw the film a while back and hated it. I felt it was incredibly
boring. It was total masterbation for Tony Wilson. He's was only
blowing his own horn as to how great he was. He comes off as
being so insecure that he needs to create an entire film about
how HE CREATED the rave scene. As soon as he goes into the
club owner business...meaning starting the Hacienda club and
creating the rave scene he completely lost me....I wanted to walk
out.
But I must state that I never had any interest in the Happy
Mondays. They're have absolutely no talent as far as I'm
concerned. Their music is uninspired and goes no where. The
volume of drugs they took is completely reflected in the quality of
their music.
They barely go into the visual part of Factory records too. I feel
they produced some amazing graphics. Peter Saville's design
were beautiful and totally changed the way album art was
done. The movie presents Peter as this bumbling fool and
completely disregard his contribution to the label/bands. I'd even
go so far as saying that 4AD's designs wouldn't be what they
were without the Factory influence.
If you're into rave culture and the Happy Monday's you'll love the
film.
If you like Joy Division & New Order you'll like the first 15
minutes...basically up until Ian dies...after that it's all down hill.
I completely regretted spending $10 to see it in the theatre.
