hi pixie girl, welcome!
my fav JD track is New Dawn Fades, followed closely by Day of the
Lords.
what're yours?
what gets me are some new order fans - now i'm not pulling a 'more
punk than thou' or anything, i see the difference, and everyone's
entitled to their choice. i really love early new order, movement,
and i think it makes sense that they went a different direction, and
i think they evolved and put out a lot of great dance club songs too,
some of the very best, 'everytime i see you falling i get down on my
knees and pray' ... it doesn't get much better than that for that
80's club scene ....
BUT
i met a guy and we started talking about music (go figure) - we hit
it off right away - had a lot of very similar fav bands - he loves
the smiths, nirvana, etc. So when he said his favorite band of all
was new order, i said, awesome, and i added 'and you love Joy
Division, right?' to which he replied, 'Who?'. Now i know we all
have been exposed to different bands, and i'm sure i don't know of
some killer stuff out there that other people would guess i did (and
i'm open to suggestions, always looking, it's my obession), but to
love NO and not know much, if anything, about JD was a real shocker.
again, i don't write this to put anyone down, he's now a very good
friend, i don't think anyone's taste in music is superior to anyone
else's - you like whatever you like. i just found it odd, so i
thought i'd share it with you all.
here, i can illustrate the same fault in myself - i'm a hardcore
bauhaus/tones on tail/early love and rockets/david j/early daniel
ash/peter murphy/dalis car fan, but a friend did the same thing to
me - she asked, "so, you like the bubblemen, right?", to which i
replied, "Who?". And then i got to thinking, and realized i had
heard of a project they did (although i thought it was more of a joke
than anything), in fact i recall something on the LandR video
collection i have called that. But that was a relatively small side
project; I see a few 12inch and 7inch releases on gemm.com for sale,
and i'm surprised i don't own any of them. But let's face it Joy
Division has left a substantially large mark on the face of music and
are more than a little bit less obscure than the bubblemen - or is it
just me? lol
cheers,
-aupoverq
