I do believe he has made commercial recordings of his works, but they are generally not available in the West, at least not yet. I have read that he is the best interpreter of his own music. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of the subject will post here.

okay...let me be completely honest...
i have found kapustin's soviet recordings, courtesy of his son. i have
withheld this information on account of my own self-serving motives,
but i have decided to come clean about it and share my discovery with
you all. there is no logic in listening under covert provisions of my
own home. i feel it is an act of indiscretion channeled in opposition
to those who were not privileged to listen, and am therefore, turning
over the link.
the track listing includes:
etude op.19
nocturne op. 20
piano concerto op. 14
concert rhapsody op.25

Dear sir/madam
I am very interested in hiring/buying specific works by Kapustin. When looking
at the
publication schedule, I notice that some are labelled mislaid. Is this a
permanent thing, or
simply until they are found - I am just not sure exactly what this means.
Regarding works
that are being revised, is this Group the best way to find out when they wil be
ready for hire? I
ask specifically in relation to the Variations for Piano and Band. Yours
faithfully, Simon
Tedeschi (have a great 2009!)
I have updated the website to introduce a new recording of Kapustin's Saxophone
Concerto,
op. 50 by Alexei Volkov with the New Russia Orchestra conducted by Mark
Gorenstein. Also
posted is a link to the newly available score for Kapustin's Concerto for Eleven
Instruments,
op. 99.

Greetings I`d like to express my gratitude to Mr. Masahiro Kawakami for his outstanding recordings of 3-rd album dedicated to Mr. Kapustin`s music...music of surprising harmonic discoveries . Very touching, emotional , exciting performances . Thanks to everyone involved in producing new recordings and scores. I hope new recordings will be planned soon.
Dear Ernest,
I'm meeting our Russian colleagues on Monday (3rd November) and one
of the subjects up for discussion is the Violin Sonata - or lack of
it - which I hope they'll be able to enlighten me on!
Glad to hear that your concert went well and was so much appreciated -
keep up the good work...
Cheers
Tim

I obtained my copy of the Violin Sonata through the society. The
number can be found in all the MusT publications. I had to pay a small
fee for copying costs etc. But it was well worth it.

Dear Tim,
Sorry to be bugging you about the violin sonata (again)...
Since the recording of it has already been issued, which means there
must be a readable manuscript. Would that be available for purchase
or download?
By the way, the Jazz concert we had last night was very successful,
featuring Op. 36, Op. 40 no. 2, Op. 45, Op. 96, and Op. 118. The
audience were pleasantly surprised to discover such beautiful music,
and we were very happy to have brought it to the audiences here in
Hong Kong.

Dear Tim,
Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry too for the circumstances involving
the Violin Sonata publishing. I hope things work out well to a
successful outcome yet this year so everyone anxious to have and
perform it, like me, can buy it then.
About the Divertissement, thanks for the Kapustin Society address. I
have contacted them and, according to the reply I received, the
outcome may be positive. I may have a definitive answer within the
next week, so, until then I'll wait.
Sincerely,
Denis

Dear Denis,
I'm really sorry that the Violin Sonata isn't available in print yet.
We had hoped that the origination would have been ready in about June
(which it was) but then the composer was away for a couple of months
and couldn't start checking the work until quite recently.
I sincerely hope that we will be able to publish the Sonata before
the end of this year, and we're relying on our Russian colleagues to
make things happen as quickly as possible.
The Divertissement is certainly in our schedule, but if you're
desparate you can get an authorised photocopy of the composer's
original manuscript from the Kapustin Society at
kapustin_soc@....
We are trying very hard to get as many works published as we can, but
there are technical, practical and human "obstacles" to overcome,
which can prove quite cumbersome at times. It's one of the joys of
being a music publisher. But, looking back obver the past 4 and a
half years, we haven't done too badly I think!
Best wishes

Hi Tim,
I would like to know if there is any sure date for the Violin Sonata
Op. 70 to be made available for purchasing. The publication schedule
says it will be released this month and I'm really anxious to try this
wonderful work.
I also would like to know if the Divertissement Op. 91 will be made
available any time this year or until july/2009.
I have played the Trio Op. 86 already, and I'm currently rehearsing
the Quintet Op. 89. Both pieces were incredibly popular among the
audience and people are anxious to hear more works by Kapustin. I have
a performance scheduled for the Quintet on january and I'm thinking
about adding other chamber works to the program, so thats the reason I
ask about the Violin Sonata and the Divertissement.
Thanks in advance,
Hallai
A quick note on the file I uploaded yesterday - as you can see there
are now more than 4,000 retail outlets worldwide where you can
purchase or order Kapustin scores.
Included among these, and worth a particular mention, is the Hong Kong
based establishment PerformNow www.performnow.hk who, under the
enterprising leadership of Ernest So (So Hin Leung) is starting to
promote Kapustin's works, both in print and in performance, in the
vast and as yet untapped territory of China.
So if you want to know who our other "preferred" dealers are in your
country, please email me and I'll tell you who they are. These will be
shops who regularly order Kapustin titles, rather than just get them
in as and when requested to do so.
Cheers
Tim
Sorry Ernest - not yet. We were hoping that it would be ready in July
but the originator was late with the music data and then the composer
had to go on holiday before he could check it all through.
So hopefully we're now looking at September...
Best wishes
Tim

Great. I was just reading it the other day, picking some Kapustin to

I guess so, Ernest.
By the way, I haven't mentioned about the second impromtu (op. 66)
which is on that CD as well.
Hi Tim,
I wonder if the violin sonata has been published as scheduled. Would
really love to play it with a violinist.

Hi Boris,
Thanks for the heads up. And I assume this will be available at HMV.jp

Hi, Greg!
It'd be wonderful if you could inform all Kapustin fans about the new
Kawakami Masahiro's recording via nikolaikapustin.net.
The CD "Kapustin piano works 3" contains:
sonatas 11 (Twickenham) & 13
Introduction and rondo
Wheel of fortune
No stop signs
Best
Boris
The Second and Sixth sonatas are in print from MusT. Visit

New Japanise scores are excellent! I enjoy sonata-fantasia very much! I wish to see second and sixth sonatas publish in a future realeases as well ! Wouldn`t be fair? Thanks
Hi to all of you. ;)
Being in Moscow with a view to support my friend pianist at
Richter's competition, I found out that a concert of Kapustin's
chamber music was outlined some of these days. It'll took place
on the 21-th of June at the Small Hall of the Moscow Concervatory,
19.00 (Moscow time), Bolshaya Nikitskaya street, 13.
There's is no mention in the playbill
(http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/5517/53337168lx7.jpg) about
which music's going to be performed, only the names of composers
are seen: Kapustin, Vinitskiy.
The concert's about to be held as a part of the 27-th subscription
named "Jazz changes classic".
Participants:
"Glinka state quartet"
Yulia Serebryanskaya, violin 1
Elena Fichtengolz, violin 2
Lev Serov, viola
Oleg Smirnov, cello
And other musicians:
Pavel Nersesian, piano
Alexander Vinitskiy, guitar
Therefore, if some of Kapustin fans are in Moscow in the next few
days, they can visit the show. The tickets are available (no marvel
considering the popularity of Kapustin in Russia).
Great performance, great composition! I wish I could see the rest of
this video. I am anxious to see the score also. Any plans for a recording?
