Subject: [kaseychambers] Dead Ringer Band and B&B DVD
> I`m in the US and just discovered her. Two questions: Are the three
recordings by The Dead Ringer Band worthwhile for someone who does not like
bluegrass, but is more inclined to sad moody songs such as If I were you and
B&B? Is she prominent on these albums? I`ve seen the B&B DVD offered as PAL
no region which I can play, is this performance a must have? I saw the
soundstage performance (what there was of it) that had songs from the B&B
album. Thanks, Stephen

There is no bluegrass on the DRB albums. There are three titles in print
and they are all quite good. Kasey sings about 3/4 of the lead vocals plus
a couple of duets with her dad. None of the songs are really what you
describe as moody, they are pretty upbeat by and large. Lots of originals
and lots of great covers of people like Lucinda Williams, Townes Van Zandt,
Gram Parsons and so on, in fact one album is nothing but covers, Hopeville.
Make sure you can use the PAL system because it is not used anywhere in
North America. The Soundstage show was rather blah I thought. Really poor
lighting and direction didn't help. Anyway, the DVD is great, more a
documentary. There are live with a studio audience parts intersperced with
interviews with KC and various band members, some really early footage,
guests like Paul Kelly, Camille te Nahu, some concert footage with Emmylou
Harris. Definitely a must have for a fan. I had to have mine converted to
NTSC in order to use it though.
If you have trouble tracking down her DRB CDs or her singles contact me at
bill@villagerecords as we stock everything that is in print. A fair amount
of Bill Chambers CDs as well.
