Gosh Willa could you show a little more enthusiasm! But seriously, I always
enjoy your posts. Kathy couldn't have a better advocate! Congrats to Kathy. She
deserves all the recognition she can get. You summed it up perfectly!

I'm wondering if everyone's migrated to Facebook. It does seem to be awfully
quite around here lately.

go Willa - not to worry about the deafening silence - all of us, at one
time or another, experience dead silence to our posts, doesn't mean we don't
love what is said - just that we don't take the time to acknowledge and add
to the comment

I'm so happy for Kathy to have her last two albums chart so well - can you
just imagine how many have been churned into the retail mix - what are the
odds that a non-radio artist could chalk up such a great placement - that's
the integrity speaking

love your enthusiasm - PeggSter

Here's another one we can all appreciate. Kevin John Coyne listed Kathy's
"RIGHT OUT OF NOWHERE" as Number 50 on his list of the TOP 100 GREATEST ALBUMS
OF THE DECADE! Ah, a man after my own heart...that's my favorite of all my
Kathy favorites. Sure, you and I would place it at a much higher ranking and
add other KM albums, but this is pretty GREAT!

The 100 Greatest Albums of the Decade, Part 6
Kevin John Coyne

#50
Kathy Mattea, Right Out of Nowhere

Kathy Mattea has rarely sounded more open and warm than on this set of
innovative folk-tinged songs. Topics of peace, love, resignation and heartache
are sensitively explored in songs both written by Mattea and other well-known
names, including captivating interpretations of The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Me
Shelter" and Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Down on the Corner." It's a rich
album with a decisively vibrant feel. – Leeann Ward

Recommended Tracks: "Gimme Shelter", "Down on the Corner", "Give It Away"

AND NOW, BACK TO ME! Kathy's name is popping up everywhere these days, and I'm
loving it!

Happy Weekend, y'all! Here in Northern Virginia, the ground is covered with
snow, and it's still falling. Time to get the camera out and record the first
snow of the season, here at least.

The way Kathy thinks, the way she seeks to truly be a part of the solution, her
kindness and generosity of spirit...these are just a few of the reasons I hold
her in such high esteem.

Thought fellow Clowns might like to read this article. Here are a couple of
excerpts:

"...He doesn't see himself as a bad person and doesn't appreciate being painted
as a villain. I can't begin having a conversation with him till I go out of my
comfort zone to try to understand what it would be like to walk in his shoes.

I can't expect him to understand my anguish about the environment and about some
of the people and the conditions they have to live in next to these mountain top
removal sites. I can't expect him to listen to me, to have compassion for me if
I'm not willing to have compassion for him. That's the place I'm trying to work
from.
I have concern for all West Virginia, everybody. I want to find a way that
everybody can exist and have jobs and nobody has to be sacrificed for anyone
else. That's the conversation I'm interested in having."

...."There's a wisdom to that that you can't teach people. I think that's the
part I appreciate more going forward watching the world change. I'm really glad
I had that as a kid. I got to go all over the state and climb mountains and
spelunk in caves. I got to do the whole thing."

http://tiny.cc/grafwv

Thank you, Kathy Mattea. I've always been happy and proud to call West Virginia
my home, but you never fail to make my heart burst with even more pride, both
for my home state and for you. No other individual could possibly represent the
state with a higher level of integrity, compassion, intellect, and honesty than
do you. God bless you, sweet kind Kathy.

Guys,

Kim's post (thank you!) reminded me to let you all know that the "Carolina
Christmas from Biltmore Estate with Kathy Mattea" is on NPR this Christmas
season. At the WDAV website you can learn more, including seeing a couple
minutes from the sound check.

Try this:
http://www.wdav.org/m3u/podcast/1414.m3u

I hope that link works. Haven't tried it yet. I'm having a back "episode" that
has me immobile staring at the ceiling. I have two doctors and one can see me
the end of January and the other has an opening the end of February. On the
brighter side, I can get my MRI tomorrow :) Then what? Nah, nothing's
broken...nothing needs fixing. (Hmmm, is she talking about her back or the
health care system?).

I digress....

This special sounds wonderful. It was recorded at the Biltmore back in
September and includes the talents of Jim Brock and Rick Blackwell, as well as
some other choral folks and musicians (Bill, of course). It may also be
available for purchase... many of the station's offerings are.

Enjoy. I hope to still be going to Missoula on 19 December. The offer still
stands. You get to SLC and you can come along. Offer limited to number of seats
in my Matteamobile. Offer expires 18 December and void where prohibited by law.
Your mileage may vary.

I love Oxycontin.

Seasons greetings,
Sue

Yes Jim,I think thats the show I was thinking of..I know Holly Dunn and
Randy Travis, and some other artists were on a show with Roy Rogers around that
time--but its probably not that Christmas one you just mentioned..things
get hazy after nearly 20 years, you know??...

You might be thinking of "Montana Christmas Skies", a John Denver show with
Kathy, Patty Loveless, Clint Black and narrated by God (well, George Burns
anyway). Kathy has a duet with Patty and delivers the definitive performance of
"Christ Child Lullaby".

I think a few of us will be digging through our VHS tapes in the coming weeks.

My foggy brain is probably mistaken, but I thought Kathy was on a show
around 1990 or so,called "Wild Montanna Skies",if I remeber correctly,John
Denver,Randy Travis and Patty Loveless was on it along with Kathy, and I think
Roy
Rogers ..but I could be wrong, that was so long ago..senility is already
setting in on me...seems to me I recall Holly Dunn being among the guest stars
also,(she was a huge Roy Rogers fan!)..so it's quite possible I am wrong
about the cast and show title..

I'd have to dig through my VHS tapes and see if I recorded it or not--AND
remembered to LABEL the tape I recorded it on too!..I still have about 50
tapes I need to watch and write down whats ON them and make labels for
them..that was "only" 19 years ago,and I still haven't gotten around to watching
them again yet..they'll probably snap from old age before I ever get
too---(rolleyes!)..

Nope, close but no cigar. I searched through all my CDs and found it--it
was song #7 on a CD called Roy Rogers Tribute that came out in 1991. It
had a number of artists performing with Roy as well as some of his more
famous songs (Kentucky Headhunters, Clint Black, Randy Travis, Lorrie
Morgan, Willie Nelson and others).

I suspect this was taken from a TV show called Hot Country Nights from 1992.
That's the only appearance I remember where Roy and Kathy appeared together.

Hello

I was surfing today and came across a website called songarea.com, where you can
listen to songs, download music etc. I was curious about one of the KM
selections that I had never heard before. (I thought that I'd heard them all !)
She was singing with Roy Rogers, a song called "Final Frontier". She sounds
VERY young. Can anyone shed any light as to what the occasion was for this song
being recorded ?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

One of my greatest joys over the last 10-12 years has been finding the
songwriters for all of the songs that Kathy has recorded - I haven't quite
heard or met all of them yet, but I'm getting up to almost 80% so far.

Here's a YouTube video of Wendy Waldman, a really amazing songwriter who
co-wrote Plant Your Fields - she's also the co-writer with Jim Photoglo of
"Fishin' in the Dark," and she wrote Vanessa something-or-other's, "Save The
Best for Last." Vanessa Williams? the gorgeous beauty queen with the
voice like silk? is that the right name?

Wendy is enjoying a resurgence of her performing career singing in a trio
called "The Refugees," with Deborah Holland and Cindy Bullens (I went to
high school with Cindy's older brothers way back in 1960-something in N/E
Massachusetts). Check out YouTube for the Refugees, too. All of these women
have written big big big hits, and they're writing more great stuff in this
new go-round of their careers.

anyway, here's a YouTube link - some friends of mine put on house concerts
in the West LA area, and Wendy is one of their close friends - good stuff

Ok Sue I took the opportunity to try J Dawgs over the weekend. I can see what
you like about 'em. I made the mistake of reading a bunch of reviews before I
went. They spoke glowingly about the special BBQ sauce so I decided I had to try
mine with the sauce. Shouda known better. I can't stand sweet with hot dogs! I
had mine with kraut, pickle, onions and the sauce. The first bite was the best
because it was pure hot dog. The rest were less exciting due to the sauce. Too
dang sweet! The dog by itself was great. Oh, and the pickle was really good. I
love how they grill the dog. The criss/cross cuts are unique. Not sure if that
helps the taste, but the grilled flavor was wonderful. Next time it'll be with
my standard mustard and kraut! Hey, they also sell Apple Beer. Glad to see that
stuff making a come back. Thanks for the tip.

You must be talking about the muni-meters. We have them here in parts of
Rockaway. I've heard of people who walked away from their cars to feed the
meter and get the ticket to put in the window, only to come back and find a
ticket being or having already been written.

Jim,

I know many parking lots have one central "meter" and I've seen them use
it
in Park City, but Rene looked up and down the street for a place to pay
and couldn't find one. Hey, what are you trying to do...make this MY
fault?

Sue you just have to get out more and experience the joys of parking on
the
street more often. most modern cities have done away with meters some time
ago as they had a habit of having their heads loped off and few people
carry arroung huge pockets full of change to feed them, not even us
canadians
who have one and two dollar coins. Like in Toronto, when you exit your
ride
you see a sign that says pay to park and directs you to a large shinny
steal box that will ding your visa or other cc and print you off a ticket
to
display. we even have these things in my small town of 75000.

Hi Everyone

I had written a while back to ask if anyone had ever gone to a Marty Stuart show
because he was coming to my town and I was thinking about going to see him. As
it turned out, I wasn't able to go (a lot of that going on these days !!), but
there was a write up in the local paper about him and his band, and one of his
"new" bandmates is Paul Martin, former Kathy band member.

When I got to work this morning, one of my co-workers said that she had gone to
the show, and Marty and all of his band were out in the lobby signing autographs
afterward. (Imagine that!?) So I asked her if she was able to talk to Paul, and
she did speak to him briefly, but nothing of consequence. She did ask me if he
is "the cute one". I said yes that he is. She also commented that Marty kept
referring to him as "Apostle Paul".

So if anyone was wondering what Paul is up to these days, he's touring with
Marty as part of the Fabulous Superlatives.

If anyone was wondering what I'm up to these days, I'm not touring with anyone
as part of anything. So Sue, if you're still looking for a driver to go to
Montana, I just might be available !!

Barb "Here's Hopin' I'm not in total Exile from touring" F.
