I was thinking: thanks Stacey for posting those beautiful videos. One
of those names without a gender(like Mike). It got me wondering- Are
there any women in the group? Is throat-singing, like The Three
Stooges, kind of a guy thing? I was blown away when I saw Sainkho
sing. It was amazing when she came on stage, to see the normaly stodgy
Walker Art Center in Minneapolis burst into a explosion of loon calls
from every corner of the room. She's got quite a fan club. One thing
for sure: the law of overtones dictates that women should be able to
make extra high and powerful harmonics. It's the "throat" part that
makes it not quite the same thing. There is a gap there between the
low and high notes that men don't have. An Alto voice, like Karen
Carpenter, might help that. Have we gotten over the prejudice against
women throat-singers yet? Kiva are you out there?
