For those of you who are unaware of this visit. . . . here's the scoop:
Earth is catching up with Mars, an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in Recorded history. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the last 5,000 years but it may be as long as 60,000 years.
That's pretty convenient when it comes to seeing something that no human has seen in recorded history.

Pesky Little Ones
Have you heard the latest news of West Nile Virus in our area? Please consider how you protect yourself and your family. I would highly recommend NOT using chemicals because you are bound to kill off more of the mosquito predators, which will in turn give us an even larger mosquito population. Remember to empty any containers you see with standing water, and put fish in your water gardens to eat mosquitoes that want to populate there.
Here is another suggestion that was in a gardening forum:
Put some water in a white dinner plate and add just a couple of drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dishwashing soap. Set the dish on a porch or patio. Not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white color, or what, but mosquitoes flock to it, and drop dead, or fall into the water, or on the floor within about 10 ft. It's supposed to work great.

Dress Code
I guess I haven't upset the school board too bad by quoting them in my song. They are welcoming me into Southern Middle School, (in Person County) as an 8th grade math and Algebra 1 teacher while the regular teacher goes on Maternity leave (which could be any day now). I am really looking forward to spending some quality time with these kids, and I hope I can help them understand math, and make it fun for them as well. If any of you have ideas on keeping math interesting, please let me know. I just hope I don't violate the Dress Code. ; )

A New Diet . . . The Blonde Diet ( yes, I represent that!)
This blonde was terribly overweight, so her doctor put her on a diet. "I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you'll have lost at least 5 pounds."
