Happy Autumn ! ! ! !

Low humidity, cooler temps . . . . even the leaves are falling ( thanks to Isabel).

I have been enjoying the stint of teaching 8th grade Algebra and Math. My 6 weeks with the same class will end next week, but I have already been asked to return to help fill in for other classes. Being with the students has taught me alot about life, and I am sure that there will be songs out of these experiences in the near future.

My hope is that more adults will continue to get involved in American kids lives, and help them realize the importance of listening to the adults in their lives. Some kids are given the opportunity to run their families, and tell their parents how it will be, and this is amazing to me. If we can continue to reach out to those with limited parenting and absentee families, or parents who just don't seem to know how to lead, then our future will be a brighter place. I have just put an excerpt on my website. It's a great article that's called Why Teens Rebel. Check it out if you want some eye-opening statistics.

All in all I am really enjoying this period in my life, and I hope that I have been having a positive impact on some young lives, but let me tell you what is happening this weekend . . . .

MUSIC THIS WEEKEND

Tomorrow ( Friday, Sept 26), Dulcie Taylor will be performing at the Six String Cafe. Darcy is fantastic, and has won many awards for her songwriting. Another big reason to see Dulcie is for her band. John Landau and Henry Cross are utterly wonderful musicians from the DC area. . . .. so you recognize a last name? Cross, maybe? Yep, he is the lucky man married to my identical (soul) twin, Rachel. Henry plays bass, and is the real reason Rachel always has a big smile on her face all the time. Anyway, the whole Darcy package is fantastic. Check them out starting at 8 pm Friday night.

Humor . . . . Wives and Flowers

While attending a marriage seminar on communication, Tom and his wife
Peg listened to the instructor declare, "It is essential that husbands and wives
know the things that are important to each other."

He addressed the men, "Can you describe your wife's favorite flower ?"

Tom leaned over, touched his wife's arm gently, and whispered,
"Pillsbury  All-Purpose, isn't it?"

The rest of the story is not pleasant.

Book Time

My brother, John Cape, has been involved in helping write a book about the reconstruction of Iraq. It is finally out . . .
Reconstructing Eden: A Comprehensive Plan for The Post-War Political and Economic Development of Iraq, co-authored by former Secretary of the Army Thomas E. White.
Here's what the publisher has to say. . . .
"The combat phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom went exactly as intended. American superiority in all dimensions of modern warfare -- land, sea and air -- enabled a lightning-fast advance to Baghdad and the toppling of the
regime of Sadaam Hussein.

And the peace process is going exactly as designed -- or not designed -- as the case may be. Unbelievably, American lives are being lost daily and the U.S. is spending over $4 billion per month in Iraq without a cohesive,
integrated blueprint to build a stable, self-sufficient country within an identified timeframe.

"We did not conduct the war this way and we should not continue rebuilding the country in a haphazard manner. The result will be a financial disaster, more lives lost, chaos in Iraq and squandered American goodwill," White
explains. "Given the enormous cost of the war -- in both lives and money -- we must move rapidly to achieve our strategic objective of creating a new and economically prosperous Iraq founded on democratic principles.
Reconstructing Eden is a road map to achieve that end."

"Having won the war by the skillful execution of a competent plan, the winning of the peace remains elusive," White said. "The plan offered in Reconstructing Eden will bring about the outcome we seek at a price we can
afford."

His co-authors bring considerable expertise to this project. Robert C. Kelly, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CountryWatch, has a Ph.D. from Harvard University in economics, an undergraduate degree from West
Point and is an expert in stabilization aid in post-war developing economies. John M. Cape is a Stanford MBA who studied Arabic at West Point and spent two years working on the construction of a military city near the
border of Iraq in the 1980s. Denise Youngblood Coleman is the Country Review editor for CountryWatch and is nearing completion on a Ph.D. in anthropology at Rice University.

CountryWatch, Inc. is an information provider and online publisher for business, government and academic clients who need up-to-date information and news on 192 countries of the world.

Copies of Reconstructing Eden can be ordered online at
www.countrywatch.com
immediately and at www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com after September
12th."

Okay, I have provided you with enough enlightening info for one day.  You know me, just trying to help out anyway I can.  I hope to see you in the near future, and that the world achieves peaceful days and nights.

Enjoy the weather, and enjoy your fellow man ( . . . and woman)

Here are some words about my CD, Illusions:
" Buchanan... creates a mesmerizing aura with powerful yet restrained vocals over exotic-sounding music (the violin and flute complement her acoustic guitar nicely). While her original tunes are solid, her cover songs truly shine . . ."
The Miami Herald

"...Buchanan has delivered a musical package that beams with soul and sensitivity. Her songwriting is smooth and fluid, with lyrics fitting the cosmic, haunting and stormy backgrounds created by equally fine musicians... The production quality is exceptional and is best appreciated with headphones on."
Singer Magazine

"...Kim Buchanan ... is already causing a buzz up and down the east coast with her dreamy, trippy take on folk music. Her second CD, Illusions, is folk rock with a psychedelic edge and a soothing, meditative effect on the emotions"
Indie-Music.com

"Kim Buchanan gets high praise for her blend of pop, folk and jazz . . . "
