Greetings,

I hope you are all doing well. I have been learning so much as a science substitute teacher the last couple of weeks, We have been studying the oceans, and tides and the moon phases and its effect on the tides, and we were talking about eclipses. AND GUESS WHAT IS HAPPENING TONIGHT (11/8/2003) !!!!  There is a total solar eclipse this evening and everyone in America will have a great view of it. Here are the details for eastern US:
the partial eclipse starts at 6:35 pm
the total phase begins at 8:10
    MAX eclipse if at 8:20
end of total phase at 8:31
and the partial eclipse finishes at 10:05 pm

I hope you are all in an area where you can experience this. I still remember the first time I got to witness it.  Very fun!  Grab the kids and a blanket and watch the stars together tonight.

Upcoming Performances

I have been enjoying this time with teaching middle school kids, but I think I will be making the rounds again with touring in the spring. If you would like to host a house concert in your area, please let me know and I would love to work that out with you.

I am headed off this week to a conference in NY (NERFA - North East Regional Folk Alliance)  and I am looking forward to getting immersed in music again. I have 5 wonderful showcases, and if you are going to be there and want more details, let me know and I will give you the times and showcase rooms.

Now, for some great humor. . . .

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgery. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and
said, "I'm so sorry, Cuddles has passed away."

The distressed owner wailed, "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am sure. The duck is dead," he replied.

"How can you be so sure," she protested. "I mean, you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room, and returned a few moments later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on
the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog and took it
out, and returned a few moments later with a beautiful cat.

The cat jumped up on the table and also sniffed delicately at the bird. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out
of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck." Then the vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill which he handed
to the woman. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill.

"$150!" she cried. "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead?!!"

The vet shrugged. "I'm sorry. If you'd taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan ..."

Guess What Sex these are. . .
ZIPLOC BAGS - male, because they hold everything in,
but you can always see right through them.

SHOE - male, because it is usually unpolished, with its tongue hanging
out.

COPIER - female, because once turned off, it takes a while to warm up.

TIRE - male, because it goes bald and often is over inflated.

HOT AIR BALLOON - male, because to get it to go anywhere
you have to light a fire under it .....
and, of course, there's the hot air part.

SPONGES - female, because they are soft and squeezable and retain water.

SUBWAY - male, because it uses the same old lines to pick people up.

HOURGLASS - female, because over time, the weight shifts to the bottom.

HAMMER - male, because it hasn't evolved much over the last 5,000 years,
but it's handy to have around.

REMOTE CONTROL - female ! .... Ha! You thought I'd say male.
But consider, it gives men pleasure, he'd be lost without it, and while he
doesn't always know the right buttons to push, he keeps trying.

Now, I hope you go out and enjoy this wonderful Fall day we are having ( at least here in NC). May we meet again soon, and until then, keep the love of music in your heart, ( and Illusions in your CD player)

Here are some words about my CD, Illusions:
" Buchanan... creates a mesmerizing aura with powerful yet restrained vocals over exotic-sounding music (the violin and flute complement her acoustic guitar nicely). While her original tunes are solid, her cover songs truly shine . . ."
The Miami Herald

"...Buchanan has delivered a musical package that beams with soul and sensitivity. Her songwriting is smooth and fluid, with lyrics fitting the cosmic, haunting and stormy backgrounds created by equally fine musicians... The production quality is exceptional and is best appreciated with headphones on."
Singer Magazine

"...Kim Buchanan ... is already causing a buzz up and down the east coast with her dreamy, trippy take on folk music. Her second CD, Illusions, is folk rock with a psychedelic edge and a soothing, meditative effect on the emotions"
Indie-Music.com

"Kim Buchanan gets high praise for her blend of pop, folk and jazz . . . "
