Hello!
I hope you have survived the flus and holiday blues, the over-eating, and the meet and greeting.
It is amazing to me that another year has passed, and we begin another. One with new hopes, dreams, concerns, and hurdles to overcome. And yet, as much as things change from year to year, it is incredible to me how some things never change. Like when you least expect it, a message can come to us from out of the blue. . . or should I say tree.
This holiday, I got the sublet reminder that we are all stars, and have the ability to shine in so many ways. This was a gift from my green son, Oscar ( the Iguana), as you can see from this picture. Yes, he actually climbed to the top of the tree and stood on top of the star, taking its place. It was his turn to shine.

You Are A Star
( Kim Buchanan 2004)
Believe it or not, you're a bright, brilliant star,
making a difference by being who you are:
It shines in your smile
and when you go the extra mile;
When you bend to hug a child,
- regardless how meek or how wild;
At seeing the fresh spring buds,
or wiping always tears that could flood;
By giving your love without strings,
and enjoying the chimes as the gently ring;
When sitting in solitude,
and feeling the quiet mood,
Or dancing out in the street,
to definitely your own secret beat;
by reading a child a story,
and your new grey hair from teenage worry;
by working hard to pay the bills,
and trying to help cure the world's ills.
Your light of exceptional being
illuminates the true meaning...
YOU are a star!
Thanks for being who you are

Donate without spending a dime
After the holidays, we are all a bit lighter (in the wallet), so here are just a few great ways to help others.
- Become an organ donor (if you're not already)
- Donate blood
- Become a mentor, or big brother/big sister to a young person
- Clean house, and donate your used items to organizations that help homeless, needy and less fortunate people
- You can also visit the following websites to help make a difference. I actually have the breast cancer sight as my homepage so I can't forget

Heads Up in Cyberland. . . .
I have received several emails, and have been informed by others that these scams are prolific and a real threat. If you receive an email from anyone you have an online account -with, including banks, Ebay, paypal, internet service providers, and so forth - and they request you to go and update your info, and ask for your account numbers, please call the company to give them this info directly. You will more than likely find that there is NO problem with your account and someone was trying to steal your info. VERY SCARY.
The Crooks in the world are getting slicker and sneaker, and so we have to stay one step ahead, or at least, keep our heads, and our personal information very safe.

Improve your communication skills this year ( humor )
While attending a marriage seminar on communication, Tom and his wife Peg listened to the instructor declare, "It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other."
He addressed the men, "Can you describe your wife's favorite flower ?"
Tom leaned over, touched his wife's arm gently, and whispered, "Pillsbury All-Purpose, isn't it?"
The rest of the story is not pleasant.

As I close this email, I want to share with you a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson, I just received from Robert Seiler ( from the Purple Onion in Saluda NC). I do think this is an excellent way to approach the new year. . . and beyond.
“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and live well."
May your 2004 be all this and more. I look forward to seeing you and sharing with you this year. Thanks for your encouragement, support and for following your dreams as well!
Here are some words about my CD, Illusions:
" Buchanan... creates a mesmerizing aura with powerful yet restrained vocals over exotic-sounding music (the violin and flute complement her acoustic guitar nicely). While her original tunes are solid, her cover songs truly shine . . ."

"...Buchanan has delivered a musical package that beams with soul and sensitivity. Her songwriting is smooth and fluid, with lyrics fitting the cosmic, haunting and stormy backgrounds created by equally fine musicians... The production quality is exceptional and is best appreciated with headphones on."

"...Kim Buchanan ... is already causing a buzz up and down the east coast with her dreamy, trippy take on folk music. Her second CD, Illusions, is folk rock with a psychedelic edge and a soothing, meditative effect on the emotions"
