Well, no, not a REAL baby, but it sure was labor intensive. The comparisons are pretty great....
creation time of 9 - 10 months,
not sure what it would turn out like,
pouring heart, soul and love into it,
feeling like your body was being overtaken -(due to lack of sleep worrying about its arrival)
. . . and hoping that the world would welcome it with open arms
The actual arrival of my new 'baby' was Friday, March 22 at 1:30 pm, and it was a relatively painless delivery. She, we call her "Illusions", weighs less than a pound, is 5 3/4" wide, 5" tall, and less than a 1/2 inch wide.. . and very bright. . well that's due to the incredible artwork by one of my favorite artists, George Buchanan (www.georgebuchanan.com)
Being a proud 'mother', I am in the process of sending discs out to radio stations, and her first airplay ( at least to my knowledge) was last Friday at WFSS, (Fayetteville, 90.1 FM) on a show called ;'Free Flight', hosted by Jim Graves. He posted this brief review on the net, and this is what he said:
"... This is a lushly produced collection of songs, with violin, flute, bass, guitar, and Kim's percussionist, Jubal. It is a collection of moods, from sad to outraged to searching. She offers versions of "White Rabbit" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" here, as well as a few instrumental pieces. Very nice, and quite different from a lot of what's out there. "
If you have connections with radio stations you would like to be playing "Illusions", please let me know. Thanks.
I am very excited about this one! The Kennedy Center has a free show nightly on their Millennium stage. Jubal and I will be performing with my wonderful friends, Rachel Cross (www.rachelcross.com) and Mary Sue Twohy (www.marysuetwohy.com).
6 - 7 pm and is going to be streaming live on the net. for more info, you can go to http://kennedy-center.org/programs/millennium/. They will keep it in their archive files, so if you miss it on the 8th, you can return and see it at your convenience.
THIS WILL BE THE LAST SHOW with Michael Hsu. He will be graduating from Duke and moving away. If you haven't seen him with us before, here's your last chance.
There are also some other special guests planned to join us on-stage. Hope you can make it!

Joke - My neighbor sent this one to me, and I thought it was very funny. Hope you like it.
The Importance of Having the Correct E-Mail Address!
It seems there was this couple from Minneapolis who decided to go to Florida for a few days to thaw out during one particularly cold winter. Since both spouses worked, they had difficulty coordinating their schedules, so the decision was made to have the husband leave for Florida on a certain day, with the wife following him one day later.
The man made it down to Florida and arrived at his hotel. Upon getting to his room, he decided to open his laptop and send his wife back in Minneapolis an email. However, he left off one letter in typing his wife's email address, and sent the email off without realizing the error he made.
In another part of the country, a widow had just returned from the funeral of her husband, a Methodist pastor of many years, who had been called to glory just a few days earlier. She decided to check her email because she was expecting to hear from her husband's relatives and friends. Upon reading the first email, she let out a loud scream, fainted and fell to the floor. The woman's son rushed into the room and found his mother on the floor. He glanced up at the computer screen and saw the following email message: To My Loving Wife: I've just been checked in. Everything has been prepared for your arrival here tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then. Your Devoted Husband. PS: Sure is HOT down here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Check this out. It is pretty cool! My uncle sent this to me, and it is fun to play with. Now, you, too can control time.
If you enjoy this letter, please forward it on to your friends and family. Word of mouth ( or email) is truly the best form of advertising there is! Thanks
I hope you all have a wonderful April, and that the sun and rain makes your personal gardens and grasses greener than the other side's. Peace to you through music and smiles.
Like many of our planet's animals, I feel like I have been in hibernation most of this winter. Although, while I have stayed very close to home, my activities have not been dormant. It has been a winter of learning audio engineering, production, and doing graphic design. . . and at the end of this winter, and the coming of spring, comes my new CD, ILLUSIONS.
ILLUSIONS contains 14 tracks. I have had the great fortune to capture the talents of Michael Hsu on violin, jubal, on percussion, Scott Ainslie on slide guitar (Dress Code), Robin Cape on bass (Dress Code), and Casey Buchanan - yes, my 12 year old daughter- on flute. In addition to vocals, and playing guitar, I add bass and even a few percussion tracks. 11 of the racks are original music, but I have also included (Grace Slick's) White Rabbit, (George Harrison's) While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and (a traditional Celtic song) She Moved Through The Fair. I was lucky enough to have Brent Lambert at the Kitchen master the CD. His reputation for excellent work is very deserving.
Opening the show will be Meghan Cary (NYC), Brenda White (Boston) & Sarah Pinsker (Baltimore) who tour together as the City Girls.
Door prizes will be drawn at various times in the night. We will be giving away many exciting prizes, including a print of the Illusions artwork. If you have not seen this, check out www.kimbuchanan.com/illusions.htm . In honor of Cinco de Mayo, there will be free chips and salsa, and Mexican drink specials.
We hope you will come and celebrate with us. In addition to releasing of the CD, we will be congratulating Michael Hsu's for graduating from Duke Med. School
Michael is a fantastic violinist who I have had the honor to perform with since July. Unfortunately, after graduating, he will be leaving the area, so this may be your last opportunity to see him perform with us.
Advance Tickets are now on sale. We are anticipating a full house, and to encourage you to reserve your tickets, I am offering you a bonus chance for the door prizes ( 2 chances per advance ticket). Also, If you would like to pre-buy your ILLUSIONS CD, you will receive another bonus chance for the door prizes. Just send $5 per ticket and $15 for CDs to Kim Buchanan, 315 Yarborough Road, Roxboro, NC 27573. Include your address, phone and email address.
Puppy News. . .
Some of you may remember that we had gotten a puppy back in June. He became missing on December 7th, and still has not come home. We have done everything we could think of to find him, and hope that he is safe and has found a new loving family.
We got a call from the animal shelter when they thought they had found him. But when we arrived, we saw that they hadn't, but had been giving shelter to so many sweet faces that desperately needed a home. Being the animal lovers we are, we went back and brought home a new puppy. He is part yellow lab, and is so loving and affectionate.
Please consider giving one of your local animal shelter's a visit if you are in the market for a new pet, and share your love with one whose time is limited. Also, please remember to spay and neuter your animals so their offspring will not find their way to the shelters.
Trials and Tribulations
Sometimes the lessons we want to learn are not the ones we are handed. My Grandmother, who will be 96 on the 26th of this month, had a stoke on Christmas Day. I have just returned from visiting her in FL and have come home with a new outlook.
I want to thank everyone who has been a caregiver, a health provider and / or a friend to someone in need. Seeing how so many strangers stepped up to bat for her, and cared and showed real compassion for her this past week has been inspiring. I have been spared, in the past, from experiencing an illness this close, and so never was able to thoroughly appreciate all the hard work, and selflessness given on a daily basis from so many. I thank you and hold you all so dearly in my heart.
I think that I am or will become a better person for experiencing this, and will take the time to visit nursing homes and folks who just need someone to talk to, or hold their hand. I am thankful to my grandmother for helping me learn this lesson, even when it was difficult for her to communicate with words. I am very lucky to have had her around so many years, and hope she will be able to recover, or allow herself to let go.
~~~~~~~~~~~
February, I will be heading to FL for the National Folk Alliance conference and showcase, house concerts, and visit with my family again. At this point I have no locally scheduled events. If that changes, I will definitely let you know.
I just received a call from a wonderful friend and performing songwriter in DC - Rachel Cross, www.rachelcross.com and we will be doing an IndieGrrl show at the Kennedy Center in Washington on April 8th. I am very excited about that.
Stay safe, and I hope the love of life and music fills your days and nights.
This month is filled with events that are sure to warm your heart and soul. December is filled with celebrations of birth, renewal, faith, love, remembrance, and giving. Being an artist, what I have to give most is my love of music, so I am thrilled to be a part of 2 incredible benefits happening in the next 2 week. More of this in a minute.
First, I would like to wish you a very safe, and joyful holiday season. So many things can (temporarily) steal away some of our happiness during the holidays - shopping stress, family turmoil, figuring out what to get that special someone(s), and now the unsettling world situation - BUT I hope you find your moments of peace and love that will warm your soul down to your toes and last a lifetime.

I hope this email finds you feeling well and regaining a sense of normalcy. It feels odd saying that we should feel back to normal while a war is being waged. At the same time, if we allow a few cowards - who created this havoc - to keep us under wraps and in the "safety of our homes", than didn't they win? Isn't that exactly what they wanted to happen to us?
Part of me wants to rant politically, but the other parts wants to just feel connected to you, ...so today, I will let that part win. See, being a Gemini has its benefits.

I hope your holidays get started, this Thanksgiving, full of love, and peace. I am very thankful to have you in my life, and hope we can continue to share our musical journey together.
Dear Friends and fellow music lovers. . . Happy October !
Fall has made it's appearance with beautiful weather. . . and a new
world view:
with each falling leaf, may our hope for peace grow brighter;
with each glorious and colorful day, may we be reminded that
our individuality, pride and abilities shine brighter
than ever; and,
with each sneeze and sinus headache caused by seasonal
allergies, may we know that with all life,
we must take the good with the bad.
Figuring out how to deal with some of those unpleasant moments and
events is now one of our biggest challenges. Luckily for us, we have
music. Music helps us heal, helps us cry, helps us sing out with joy
and rejoice in what we have been given and for the lessons along the
way.
I have felt like the thing that was most missing lately for me, was
not performing as much as I had been this year, and I miss all your
beautiful smiles. Fortunately, I have been asked to fill in with some

Here is a bit of humor for the day. . .
PETS A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided
the answer to the question: "Where do pets come from?" Translation
follows:
Adam and Eve said, "Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with
us every day. Now, we do not see you anymore. We are lonesome and it
is difficult for us to remember how much you love us." And God
said, "No
problem! I will create a companion for you that will be with you
forever and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you
will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish
or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept
you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves."
And God created a new animal to be companion for Adam and Eve. And it
was a good animal. And God was pleased. And the new animal was
pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail. And Adam
said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and
I cannot think of a name for this new animal." And God said, "Because
I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you,
his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him
DOG." And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and
loved them. And they were comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog was
content and wagged his tail. After a while, it came to pass that an
angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam and Eve have become
filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they
believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that
they are loved....but perhaps too well." And God said, "I will create
for them a companion who will be with them forever and who will see
them as they are. The companion will remind them of their
limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of
adoration." And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.
And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's
eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings. And
Adam and Eve learned humility. And they were greatly improved.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was happy.
And Cat didn't give a damn one way or the other.

Under The Willow House Concert Series. . . .
Yes, I believe it is becoming a series. My husband and I are so glad we can give a little more than just shelter to some of our touring friends. We will be sponsoring house concerts in our natural, outdoor amphitheatre, and hope to introduce you to some great voices you may or may not have had a chance to hear.
These House Concerts will be held on Sunday afternoons, door opens at 3:30, and music starts around 4 pm. This should hopefully work well for the parents who need to get kids in bed, and still have a family outing and enjoy the day in the country and some great music.
We will be asking for $5 donations per adult, and bring a desert to share during the break and after the show, with a meet and greet for the artists.
Carla, a Clemson SC native, is a fantastic guitarist, and a humorist in her songwriting. I am excited to introduce her to you if you have never heard her before. I even graduated from USC, (Clemson's biggest rival) and I really like her. Here is what others have said as well. . .
Carla is cute as a button, hysterically funny and a phenomenal guitarist, possessing and original and lyrically creative folk repertoire. -- South Florida Folk
"a fresh tongue-in-cheek delivery that Garrison Keillor should know about... A lot of fun, and a refreshing change from the norm. " --Recording magazine, May 2000
Her wit and humor are so fresh...it should be date coded -- Dave Cambest, Broward Folk Club News
AWARDS 1st place, 2000 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest, Open Category 2nd place, 2000 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest, Modern Rock/ Alt. Breast Cancer Stamp
We need those of you who are great at forwarding on info with your e-
mail network. Please read and pass on. Peace and good health. It
would be wonderful if 2001 were the year a cure for breast cancer was
found!!!! The notion that we could raise $16 million by buying a book
of stamps is powerful!
As you may be aware, the US Postal Service recently released its
new "Fund the Cure" stamp to help fund breast cancer research. The
stamp was designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda, Maryland.
It is important that we take a stand against this disease that kills
and maims so many of our mothers, sisters, friends Instead of the
normal $.34 for a stamp, this one costs $.40. The additional $.07
will go to breast cancer research. A "normal" book costs $6.60. This
one is only $8.00.
It takes a few minutes in line at the Post Office and means so much.
If all stamps are sold, it will raise an additional SIXTEEN MILLION
DOLLARS for this vital research. Just as important as the money
is our support. What a statement it would make if the stamp outsold
the lottery this week! What a statement it would make that we care.
Many of us know women and their families whose lives are turned
upside-down by breast cancer. It takes so little to do so much in
this drive. Please help & pass it on!

Thanks again to all of you for your continued support and
encouragement. Hope to see you tomorrow!

HERE'S SOMETHING TO REFLECT ON. . . . .
THINGS GRIPED ABOUT IN 1959
(1) "I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are,
it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20."
(2) "Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be
long when $5000 will only buy a used one."
(3) "If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. A
quarter a pack is ridiculous."
(4) "Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime
just to mail a letter?"
(5) "If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to
hire outside help at the store."
(6) "When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would
someday cost 40 cents a gallon."
(7) "Kids today are impossible. Those duck tail hair cuts are
ridiculous
looking. Next thing you know, boys will be wearing their hair as long
as
girls."
(8) "Also, their music drives me wild. This 'Rock Around The Clock'
thing is nothing but racket."
(9) "I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since
they let Clark Gable get by with saying 'damn' in 'Gone With The
Wind,' it
seems every movie has a 'hell' or a 'damn' in it. What's next I ask
you?"
(10) "Soon you won't be able to buy a good 10 cent cigar."
(11) "Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract
for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if
someday
they'll be making more than the president."
(12) "Do you suppose television will ever reach our part of the
country?"
(13) "I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances
would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now."
(14) "I'll tell you one thing. If my kid ever talks back to me, they
won't be able to sit down for a week."
(15) "Did you know the new church in town is allowing women to wear
slacks to their service?"
(16) "The drive-in restaurant is convenient in bad weather, but I
seriously doubt they will ever catch on."
(17) "There is no sense in going to Ohio anymore for a weekend. It
costs nearly $15 a night to stay in a hotel."
(18) "No one can afford to be sick any more, $35 a day in the
hospital is too rich for my blood."
(19) "If they raise the price of coffee to 15 cents, I'll just have
to drink mine at home."
(20) "If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it.
I'll have my wife learn to cut hair."
(21) "Did you know that our baby sitter informed us she wants 50
cents an hour? Kids think money grows on trees."

The Benefit we played on Friday night was incredible. Seeing the out-pouring of friends and family to support Kathy Leahan was beautiful.
Here is something you can do that will help many woman:
The Breast Cancer site needs us all to click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site & click on "donating a mammogram" for free - their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate a mammogram in exchange for advertising. Here's the website: http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/AND IT COSTS YOU NOTHING!
Thanks

Here's another mp3 radio station that features women musicians. http://www.mp3.com/stations/sapphosgarden . Check it out when you get a chance and experience more wonderful music. ( Okay, I have some music on it as well. . . )
This site is sponsored by AllianceMP3.com. Lots of reviews and music news you may be interested in. Always a great place to check in.

Have a great week! I hope to see you this weekend!
I hope you are all enjoying this wonderful weather we are having. NOT your typical July weather in NC. ( no complaints here though!)
Just wanted to remind you about an event tomorrow night. There is a benefit to help raise money for a cancer victim, named Kathy Leahan. Although I do not know her, I am including a bio that I was sent about her. I count my blessings for me health, and so whenever I am asked to help raise awareness or funds in these situations, I do what I can to help out.
Event starts at 8:00 pm Six String Cafe, McGregor Village,Cary 919-469-3667 www.sixstringcafe.com
Here's the line-up Jamie Anderson - 8:00 pm ( www.jamieanderson.com) Rebecca Vinson - 9:00 pm Kim Buchanan with Jubal Michael Hsu - 10:00 pm
Yep, we have a new member ( hopefully - he's a 3rd year med student, so we know he will be extremely busy very soon ). Mike Hsu is a wonderful violinist who takes the music to a new and wonderful place. Hope you get a chance to hear the new sound!
Happy July to you all! ( Although, officially this is only June 30th)
On The Home front. . . .
I have really been enjoying the family time this month, and it seems to have been a month for acquiring more family members. We have added to our household: 2 Iguanas - Oscar & Olli, a bunch of fish, and as of Wednesday, a new puppy. He's probably mostly Shepard around 8 weeks old, and today his name is Darwin - his name has been changing quite a bit. We seem to be on the receiving side of lots of love (and licks, and ankle bites. . .) these days.
My daughter, Casey leaves Australia tomorrow and I am looking forward to hearing all her adventures. She did get a chance to send us an email from an animal sanctuary, and she is holding a Koala. She says they are incredibly soft. If you want to see the picture, and check out all the cool places she stayed, you can go to www.kimbuchanan.com/Casey.htm
~~~~~~
PLEASE CHECK OUT . . . . .
I was told yesterday that I was going to be featured on JavaMusic on July 1st. I will be "House Blends" front page, top page showcase.
It offers downloads of my music, and if you will go to the site, and download my songs, that can push me into their weekly top ten, and that's good exposure. Thanks
~~~~~~
Gig Update:
JULY 1
The Cave, Chapel Hill
452˝ Franklin Street (919) 968-9308
I will be playing from 9 - 9:45 and then the Tracy Drach Trio (www.tracydrach.com will follow. She is a wonderful songwriter I met at the Folk Alliance Conference a couple of years, and is now living in PA. Funny, when we started chatting, I found out that she had lived quite a few years in the Durham area, and considers this a second home.
July 4
The Festival for the Eno, Durham NC
10:45 am - 11:00 am, the River Stage
Then Jubal's Jubilee performs at 3 pm at the Otter Stage. A family oriented percussion, storytelling and singing event!
If you wouldl like info about Kathy & Her condition, please email me, and I will share it with you. Thanks
~~~~~~~
Other Ways you can feel good about yourself. . .
It takes less than a minute to go to The Breast Cancer Site & click on "donating a mammogram" for free - their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate a mammogram in exchange for advertising. Here's the website: http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/
ALSO. . . the USPS has a stamp that costs a few cents more, but is a wonderful way to support cancer research. Just ask your post office for the Cancer Stamp.
Hey there!
I am a bit late on my June up-date, but I wanted to post my photos
form the MD, NJ & NY trip on my website, and they are now there. go
to http://www.kimbuchanan.com/photos.htm and select the MerleFest
photos ( new ) to see the pictures I took of lots of the greats in
Bluegrass & New-grass. You can also click on the Tour pictures on
this page, and then if you see a thumbnail you're interested in, just
click for a larger size.
~~~
NEW DOs:
If you haven't been to my site lately, or seen me, you may be
surprised. My hair is much shorter, and now ( as of last night) is
even shorter than the one on the website. Every single month this
year so far I have gotten a new style, but hopefully I have finally
found the right one. There will probably be new pictures later this
month or early next.

"Kim Buchanan
Folk magician transforms the mundane to sublime.
Kim Buchanan throws a little bit of everything into her musical mix-
pop, jazz, and folk. Her voice has been compared to that of Sarah.
But where she really shines is her original music. Buchanan has the
gift of transforming the mundane into the beautiful, taking events
from every day life and making something magical out of them. - Grant

just got an email asking where the Six String Cafe is. I can't believe I left out this piece of crucial info;
The Six String Cafe is located in
• MacGregor Village Shopping Center, Cary, North Carolina. • Near the corner of US Hwy 1 and US Hwy 64 in Cary.
Directions: Take US1 South off of I40/440 to US 64 West. After the exit, take a left at the 1st stop light. This is the entrance to MacGregor Village (Edinburgh Drive) Take a left into the parking lot. We are in the building straight ahead, right next to the MacGregor Ale House. 919-469-3667
Jubal and I made our first trek, safe and sound - at least I think we are sound after 11 days on the road ( MD, NJ & NYC). It was a fantastic time, and I look forward to telling you lots of great stories, and about some of the fun folks we met. I am also going to try and have my photos back by our performance on Friday night, so come on and check them out.
That's right . . . . this is really our only show for May & June in the area. We will be doing a couple short festival type shows, but this will be an extended performance at the . . . .
SIX STRING CAFE & MUSIC HALL -
"The Six String features singer-songwriters from all over the country as well as local and regional performers. The setting is casual and the music is acoustic.
The menu is light, personal pizzas, pastries, fruit and veggie plates, and meat and cheese plates for the wine and beer lover.
And The Six String is smoke free
inside but has plenty of outside seating too.
Going to The Six String is like sitting in your den listening to some great acoustic music. So sit back, relax, and enjoy good music and good times."
I am really hoping to make an impression on the owner of the Six String Cafe so he will consider us in the future when he brings in National touring artists, and needs an opener. Please come out if you get a chance and support a wonderful new venue, and we will catch you up on all the adventures we had in NYC, MD & NJ. I have several new accents and was able to throw my southern one around pretty well.
Thanks for your continued support!

Many of you have been wonderful and bought raffle tickets for my daughter's trip to Australia. You wait will soon be over. We will hold the drawing May 26th, and will notify the winner as soon as it is over. I wish you all luck and know that the painting you choose ( if you are the winner) will have an great new home.
Here are the 'Top 10 Do's and Don'ts' for online communication:
1) Don't reply to someone in all caps; it's equivalent to screaming at them.
2) If you receive a newsletter and can't figure out how to unsubscribe, before threatening to sue or reporting the publisher for Spam, politely ask the publisher to be removed. Any ezine publisher worth his salt will be happy to oblige. We really don't want to hold you captive.
3) Try to reply to all of your email messages within 48 hours. If not, many people get annoyed and will think you're avoiding them.
4) If you publish an ezine make sure you place subscribe and unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of every issue.
5) Don't use foul language in an email; that will get you nowhere. If you're upset about something, please state the problem clearly along with how you'd like to see the issue resolved.
6) If you visit a website and it's not to your liking, don't fire off a nasty email stating what a loser the site owner must be. Remember what your Mom use to say "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all."
7) Make sure every page of your website contains an email address to contact you. Please don't make me fill out a long form just to ask you a simple question.
8) When replying to an email, keep the original message intact so the person you're replying to knows what you're talking about. Personally I receive over 300 messages a day, so I need to see your message in context -- otherwise, I may not understand it.
9) If you buy or sell products/services online, make sure you're using an online payment service like PayPal.com in order to move money around quickly. Don't make snail mail your only payment option.
10) Pay your bills in a timely fashion. If you owe someone money online don't make them send out 10 emails telling you your payment is overdue. Pay promptly.
So there you have it; my Top 10 rules for being more polite and less rude online. If you incorporate these tips into your daily Internet dealings you'll find the Net a little warmer and a friendlier place to be.
There's enough road rage in the world, so when traveling the information highway please remember that we're all human. Your computer is just a tool used to communicate with others.
Please be KIND to them!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well. with that said, this email is long enough. I will let you go and have a wonderful day. I hope to see you on Friday, and please bring a friend or two. That can be your early birthday present to me ( I am a Gemini, remember. . . .)
I hope you continue to have music in your soul, and wings on your feet. . . . Sing on!
I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend. I was able to share mine with some wonderful musicians, and had a blast.
Friday night we were joined on-stage be several members of a group called Kind Of Blue out of Winston-Salem. Zoo played bass and Allison stepped in a couple times for beautiful harmonies. What a great time and a great audience we had, especially considering it was Good Friday the 13th.
Saturday night we went to enjoy our friend's music. Meghan Cary played at the Coffee Mill in Clayton, and it was so much fun and a great show. I even joined her on-stage for a soulful version of Angel From Montgomery. So much fun swapping harmonies and leads! After that show we headed to see the last song of David LaMotte at the new venue in Cary, the Six String Cafe & Coffee House. It was standing room only, and a wonderful venue to hear music. You can check it out on May 18th when jubal & I will be performing there.
~~~~~~~~
This week Jubal and I are playing in the Triangle area.
The last weekend in April we are going to be at MerleFest, and then it is off to NY, NJ & MD. We are looking forward to it! There is a full account of our dates on the website at http://www.kimbuchanan.com/calendar.htm . Please forward this info on to any friends and family in those 3 states. Now that we have had a good touch of the beautiful summer and spring, we are going to see how much we really appreciate it when the temps reach back to freezing much of this mid week. Stay warm, safe and remember . . . .smile ~ it's the best way to warm your heart, & those around you!
Hey there,
I hope you are enjoying the beautiful spring weather we are having.
Don't let the taxes and the allergies get to you down too much.
Fortunately my taxes were completed a couple of months ago and due to
all the allergy medications I am taking, I have no worries at all.
Staying awake is another story. . . .

Jubal and I have just returned from our first short tour to the Atlanta area, and it was not only great fun, I feel that it was a beneficial trip. We made some great contacts, and played in some sweet venues, and made lots of new friends.
We are very busy for the next month in this area, and then we head up north. I hope you can make it out to some of our upcoming gigs. Here are the ones for this weekend. We are going to be helping out with a couple very worthwhile benefits in April, one is this Sunday for the Orange County Rape Crisis Center, and on April 20th, we will be performing in Durham to help the NC Million Mom March. As you know I like to forward on interesting tidbits, and here is one I thought we could all benefit from. Just another reason to B+ (be positive)
Forgiving others may do a body good NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - "Forgive and forget" may be more than a nice sentiment. New research suggests it is also good health advice. While some people may feel they have a right to hold grudges against those who hurt them, this unforgiving stance might take a toll on the body over time, according to a report in the March issue of Psychological Science. On the other hand, researchers say, granting forgiveness might help shield the body from certain harms.
Simply put, harboring a grudge is stressful. The body has "sub- systems" designed to deal with stressors, but constantly putting them to the test can inflict some "wear-and-tear," Dr. Charlotte vanOyen Witvliet of Hope College in Holland, Michigan, explained in an interview.
Indeed, some research has linked habitual anger, hostility and anxiety to a higher risk of heart problems. On the other hand, one recent study suggested that laughter boosts heart health.
Theoretically, Witvliet said, people who routinely ruminate over past wrongs may "chip away" at their physical health.
To measure the short-term effects of forgiveness and grudge-holding, Witvliet and her colleagues studied 71 men and women who described an experience in which a friend, family member or partner hurt them. They then had to follow scripts that simulated two conditions. In the "grudge condition," participants were prompted to "rehearse the hurt" and think about how the offenders should suffer for their transgressions. The "forgiveness condition" prompted participants to empathize with the offender and acknowledge that they, too, have hurt others.
Throughout both conditions, Witvliet's team measured participants' blood pressure, heart rate and other physiological responses.
The researchers found that when participants harbored grudges they reported more negative feelings, anger, sadness and a lack of control. What's more, their heart rates and blood pressure rose, and they showed greater nervous system activity.
What these short-term responses mean to long-term health is unclear, but Witvliet said that making grudges a habit might harm cardiovascular health over time. In addition, she noted, stress has been found to impair the immune system. A compromised immune system may have a host of health consequences, including greater vulnerability to infection.
While forgiveness was linked to better physical functioning in this study, Witvliet stressed that it is important for people to know what true forgiveness is.
The study participants were not asked to excuse or ignore the behavior of those who hurt them, but instead take a "merciful stance" toward them, she explained.
"It is certainly not about being a doormat," she said.

I have recently posted a couple of new songs to the mp3.com site. If
you get a chance, check them out. "Illusions" is up, and has another
friend featured as well on violin. Tracy Feldman joined us on stage
at the ArtsCenter in January, and so I have been lucky enough to
recruit him for some recordings. And actually that recording from the
ArtsCenter is also there - "That Could Be Now" (also showcases Tracy
on the violin). I think you will enjoy it.

Hello, and happy February!
This month Jubal and I are playing out less, but there are lots in
our lives to keep us busy. . . . like taxes ( sorry to mention that
for those of you who are dreading this as much as me), setting up a
new tour up north for the early part of May, and kicking off a fund
raising campaign for my daughter.
Yep, my daughter Casey (11 yrs. old) has been selected to be
a "People To People Student Ambassador". We are all thrilled with
this honor, and even more excited with the opportunity to travel that
she has been given. She will be going to the "land down under".
That's right, Australia! and for 16 days. Of course, having both
parents with careers in the Arts, she is doing a fund raiser to help
her get there. We are raffling an original oil on canvas, painted by
my husband, George Buchanan. To find out more, and how you can get
tickets, please click here:

Jubal and I really enjoyed the first leg on the NCSC (North Carolina
Songwriter's Co-op) Mini Tour. It kicked off at the Coffee Mill in
Clayton, and was such an enjoyable night. What a nice new venue we
have been introduced to. A real listening audience that gave us such
a welcome!
The other folks on the tour the Mystery Tour" include: Carol
Thompson, Alysson Light, Mike Germano, Greg Taylor, and 2 alternates -
Jon Zachary, and Tracy S. Feldman. For more information about the
NCSC, check out their website http://www.ncsongwriters.org and then

Welcome to 2001. . . and if you are reading this you know how
important a role computers play in our lives. Hal ( from "2001, A
Space Odyssey") I'm sure has been the inspiration for many computer
programmers and developers, and we all place quite a bit of
importance in their existence. Is this another example of life
imitating art? . . .
Speaking about space. . would you like to see what Earth looks like
from space? Check this out. It is very beautiful, and shows just how
luminous we earthlings are.

With all the accomplishments mankind has made, one thing will
hopefully never be replaced - the value of human contact. I can't
imagine being a musician and not having the relationships I have been
able to build with all of you. Thanks again,and I am looking forward
to another wonderful year.
So far, the last couple of days have been busy. I am starting the
planning and organizing of the LIVE CD project that will be taking
place on April 21, 2001 in Roxboro, NC. So far the intended title
will be "ALIVE In a Small Town". It will be recorded at the Kirby
Auditorium, which is a very nice venue, and has quite a bit if
history. I hope many of you can make the trek to our neck of the
woods, and help me complete this project, and create lots of
memories. I plan to have a few very special guests join us on-stage
and an after show party as well. I will fill you in on the details
as they become confirmed.
Jubal and I are also planning a couple of trips this winter and
spring. We head to Atlanta in late March, and NJ/NY are in early May.

Personal Interests:
I recently went to see the movie "Castaway", and it really sparked
some pondering. . . . could I survive if that happened to me? Today
when I was browsing my email, I got something that had a survival
test in it, and so I thought I would pass it along. It was pretty
interesting... although passing this will not help too much if
stranded on a deserted island
http://www.myprimetime.com/play/static/survivor/index.shtml
If you liked that test, here is another one that will test your burn
out rate.
http://www.myprimetime.com/health/center/stayhealthystrong/index.shtml
If you are starting to feel burn out ( and even if you aren't), it is
time to relax and listen to some good music. You can go to my mp3.com
site http://www.mp3.com/kimbuchanan , and check out some of the
stations listed to get introduced to a bunch of new independent
artists.
~~~~~~
VIRUS ALERTS:
These came to me from my mom, and I have not checked them out, BUT it
is better to be safe than sorry.
DO NOT OPEN "PRETTY PARK"
It is a virus, that will erase your whole "C" drive. It will come to
you in the form of an E-Mail from a familiar person. I repeat a
friend sent it to me, but called & warned me before I opened it. He
was not so lucky and now he can't even start his computer! Forward
this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive this 25
times than not at all.
DO NOT OPEN "AN INTERNET FLOWER FOR YOU"
Intel announced that a new and very destructive virus was discovered
recently. If you receive an email called "An Internet Flower For
You" Do not open it. Delete it right away! This virus removes all
dynamic link libraries(.dll files) from your computer. Your computer
will not be able to boot up.
~~~~~~~
Take care, and have a wonderful new year!
I look forward to seeing you again soon!

For those of you in and around the Roxboro Area. . .

and it starts at 2:00.
His office is located in the Small Business Administration Building,
