I've been a Kinks fan 12 years running, but I have
become a victim to "the CD age". Meaning, all of the
music I own is on those convient little digital discs!
I have all of the 10 Castle/Essential remasters plus
Kink Kronikles on disc.
There a few songs that have different mixes that
appear on the remasters/and KK.
So what I wonder is, which ones sounded like the
original releases on records in the 60's?
Autumn Almanac (hence the subject) on KK is a little
longer and features the intro fading in. Also, it
sounds like they turned Ray's vocals (which they did
on all of the tracks) way up!! And the outro on KK is
a nice little trippy few seconds. On the remastered
version that appears on Something Else, the opener is
just there and you can hear the trippy part on the
outro, but it's not near as pronounced.
Death of a Clown on the remastered Something Else is
missing Dave's double-track when he sings, "let's all
drink to the death of a clown" the first time.
Polly on KK, well, the backing vocals towards the end
just sounds cooler.
Has anyone else noticed any other discrepencies in the
remastered CD's??
