KINKS TRIBUTE SHOW THIS SATURDAY!
March 20th at the BUG JAR - 219 Monroe Ave in Rochester, NY
doors at 8:00pm/show at 9:00pm sharp - 21+/$6
As i'm sure you all know by now, we here at Garage-Pop Records love
rock
and roll and every now and then we like to pay tribute to our heroes
that
make rock and roll.
For those of you unfamiliar with the music of KINKS or the local
music
scene, this is a perfect opportunity to witness it all in one night!
"Ever since that day in the front room when Dave Davies slashed the
speaker cone of the Elpico with a razor blade, producing
the 'distorted
and jagged roar' we refer to as The Kinks Sound, rock and roll has
never
been the same."
Having gone from British Invasion hitmakers to late Sixties cult
heroes
to bonafide arena-filling rock stars in the Seventies and Eighties,
THE
KINKS are, it would seem, cult heroes again for the time being - a
position that their bright and sometimes discomfited leader no doubt
savors. On the eve of their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame
in 1990, Ray Davies had this to say: "THE KINKS have always been
outsiders. I'm an outsider. To be accepted is unique for us. I'm
pleased
for the people who believed in me all along. It's nice for them to
know
that their faith wasn't misplaced." To quote a slogan popular with
those
who love the band, "God Save THE KINKS".
THE KINKS have over 4 decades worth of great material spanning all
kinds
of styles of r&r. Our city of Rochester has a wide variety of rock
and
roll bands as well and this Saturday some of those bands will be
performing some of their favorite KINKS songs.
Bands performing: THE QUITTERS, THE VEINS, THE GRINDERS, THE
THUNDERGODS,
MCFADDEN'S PARACHUTE, DUKE GALAXY, SARA STRUSZ, THE FRANKS, THE
ENABLERS,
THE YOUNG CONSERVATIVES, HINKLEY, NOD, THE WILLS WILDE, DON
ANONYMOUS,
THE EARL CRAM REVUE, CHRISTINA GINGER, BRIANNA SHANNON, BEE-EATER and
THE
BLASTOFS!
