Well there's a japanese place that almost always has some used ones in
stock, selling for $4000 or so. I looked for a wave drum for about 6 years
and didn't have enough money, but everything I saw was around $3000 and
selling fast. I eventually saved the bread and bought mine for a but under
$3000 and its been really great. If you can get one for $1500 that would
seem like a very good price... cheaper than a nord modular around here.

Well the real meat and potatoes of this thing is in the interface. Its got
a microphone, pressure sensor, and a piezo pickup in the head, as well as a
rim sensor. All of these inputs feed the FM synthesis engine, so its really
expressive. You can scratch, press, hit, paw, mute, and bend the notes
exactly like a real drum! The sounds are cool and all, but its really the
expressiveness of the interface that gets me.
I'll capture some sounds for you next time I've got my laptop hooked up to
it. For now check out the manual in the files section for more info on the
synthesis schemes. Pretty cool.
