Can't answer about getting the latest OS, but I can
say that $500 is a good deal. Check out the blue book
of keyboards at http://www.prepal.com, and you'll see
that they average around $700.
I got rid of my Roland JP-8000 in exchange for the Z1.
I can't begin to tell you how much more powerfull the
Z1 is, you'll see.
