That's right. You don't say what country you are in, or what country's
distributor you asked, regardless of that, it's absolutely true. If you search
the archives of this group you'll probably come across many references. But in
summary:
* The eeprom cannot be replaced. The whole main board needs to be replaced. No
distributor in the world will still have stock, so basically, it cannot be
upgraded.
* Most of the units that exist in the world will already have the latest, 1.02.
There will be some, such as yours, that have 1.01. There were only a handful
of units shipped originally with 1.00, and most of those would have been already
upgraded by Korg to 1.01 or 1.02.
* As you can tell by the fact that it's the last digit that's incremented, there
is not a large amount of difference between 1.01 and 1.02.
* The Japanese engineer that had a lot to do with the Z1 development died about
a year after its release. This is unfortunately a major reason, I believe, why
the operating system didn't progress beyond 1.02.
