Reply | Forward Message #446 of 807 |

This weekend (January 15 and 16) there will be all-day singings
from _The Sacred Harp_, America's most popular a capella
songbook, at Angels Gate Cultural Center, San Pedro.

No admission charge. Loaner books available. (Books also sold
for $20 at the conference.) Potluck dinner provided.

"Sacred Harp" singing is also known as "Shape Note Singing".

This is a good opportunity to experience a capella choral works
by early American composers such as William Billings,
Jeremiah Ingalls, Sarah Lancaster, and others, in the original
setting.

For more information about Shape Note singing in general, see:

Hope to hear at least one or two of you there,

David Olson
